Title: Nugent needs to walk the walk....
Post by: LoveMyXds on March 21, 2010, 11:56:44 AM
From the Second Amendment March Website FAQ's:
http://www.secondamendmentmarch.com/faqs

Quote
I've heard rumors that Ted Nugent will be there to speak. Is this true?

We have been in contact with Ted Nugent's Personal Assistant and she quoted us a speaking fee for Mr. Nugent. While Mr. Nugent would be a great asset to the march, we simply cannot afford him. We express our regrets.

WTF? That dude is spouting off about the Second all the time on TV, but wants to charge a SPEAKING FEE?

My vote for Douchebag of the Week....

Cheers,
Scott

Speaking for free. Im sure all them Class 3 firearms in his gunsafe dont pay for themselves. By the way, i agree with u. But the fact is, most speakers u hear only voice their opinion or stand up for certain rights if there's a paycheck in it for them.

Have no idea. But you're not exactly comparing apples to apples there.

Ted has been the biggest hypocrit and liar when it comes to CCW for years.  I'm not shocked at him have a fee at all.   If he really beleaved what comes out of his mouth, he would have contacted them about speaking...

Is this article the full story, or is this coffee shop gossip?  You call our business to get a quote on a service, and you get a quote on a service?  However, if you talk to a director directly you will get a more in depth answer, and if you talk to the director you will deal with you will get the full story.

Number two - Ted does a lot of things for little or no compensation, and regardless of how much a person has there is a limit as to what they can afford to give away.

Number three - Blow it out your *** TAB!  He carries legally in every state in this nation.  He went about it legally, and he pushes for all of us to have the same option without having to do it the way he had available to him.  Just as he pushes for all of us to have access to the same weapons he has.

Give me the full story on this event and Ted's response, and then I'll weigh his stance.  Just because his personal assistant quotes a speaking fee to the organizers does not mean that he does not support our Rights.

It is directly from the Second Amendment March Website. I get what you are saying, it does NOT say that they talked to Ted. If anyone knows an email for him, then maybe it could be brought to his attention. I am NOT going to join his pay membership site just to post on his forum though....

he had a buddy swear him in, while that maybe legal, its also BS.

Trust me, he could give a rats ass rather you can carry nation wide.  He has always been about himself.

Like it or not, people like nugent scare away more people then they bring in.

Good thing you are in the Republic of Kalifornia, so it doesn't matter one way or the other!

He is going to be at the NRA Convention, and has a meet & greet, speech, seminar, type thing Sunday May 16, at 12:30, at the Convention Center, the admission is FREE to NRA members.

Did the NRA pay him to be there? I don't know. I do know I can't afford to get tickets to see Sarah Palin. $600 and up. However, the Freedom Concert tickets with Hannity, Gingrich, Ollie North, and Charlie Daniels, Marine Honor Guard Tribute, start at $35.

FWIW, I waived any and all speaking fees for the Second Amendment March (and yes, I do occasionally get paid to speak). I also turned down the Second Amendment March's offer to pay for my airfare. I did take them up on a free hotel room, though!

Michael,

You are a CLASS ACT!!! And of course you should be paid to share your knowledge and experience, but this is more grass roots, and I'm sure Uncle Ted wants Rockstar money...

Hopefully Nugent's manager is the ignorant one here, otherwise that officially ends my watching his television programs...

We spend a lot of time and energy with taking politicos to the woodshed when they don't walk the walk, perhaps we should look within and find the new leaders.

Nugent spoke for the NRA because he's on the board.

Cheers,
Scott

I would say something here, but m58 has already said everything I would have. Peons simply don't have the authority to say "Yeah, sure he'll be there for free!". That whole notion is a bit silly...

Even Peons aren't stupid enough to not recognize that a March on the Capital isn't a big deal, and they do have the responsibility to tell their bosses...

The March thought it was important enough to add it into their website FAQs...

If  Nugent doesnt know about it, I'd be suprised... Its not a meeting of the Podunk Rod and Gun Club we are talking about here...

Look, ,I'm going to wade into this thing, and probably piss some folks off (gee, what a refreshing change ;)). Still, here's the the deal. When I was in school in DC, I was a fairly serious pro-choice organizer (NRA too, but there were only about 3 of us in DC so it wasn't much to brag about). In 1989, or 1990, I forget which, there was a similar march on DC to protest the Webster case that rolled back a woman's right to choose (or murder her infant in the womb if you prefer, its not the issue here). Tens of thousands were expected to, and did, show up to march. If you were anyone in the pro-choice community, you wanted to be there. Until it came to the  Hollywood celebrities..... :-\. Part of my gig was to round up folks not just to speak, but to be at meet and greets in hotels to give an "atta girl" to the volunteers. These folks were all pro-Roe v Wade, until it cost them time. We offered airfare and a room at the Willard (best Hotel in DC, right on the mall), but no fee. Amazing how many folks said no. It was amazing (though sadly not surprising) to hear the politley worded "Nos". Still I couldn't help thinking, "You say you are for this issue and a whole lot of folks who make a tenth what you do are paying out of pocket to be here. Yet you can't can't show up without an appearance fee when I'm offering a $600  a night hotel room and airfare for you to show up at a cocktail party"? Get off my obstacle Private Pyle! >:( Not judging the Nuge one way or the other, and I don't care whether he speaks or not. But, I will be watching to see whether he shows up. Until then, the jury is out and I will make no judgements.

I hope he never comes to CA, the guy its just a bunch of hot air.  You forget I do have my CCW, and I show up to just about every rally at the capitol...

FQ13,

Thanks for your insight on how these things work from an insider's perspective. Perhaps I will pass my final judgement until we see if he shows up or speaks. I guess it will be a good litmus test for the Nuge....

Scott
