Acorn on Brink of Bankruptcy, Officials Say
By IAN URBINA
Published: March 19, 2010
BALTIMORE — The community organizing group Acorn, battered politically from the right and suffering from mismanagement along with a severe loss of government and other funds, is on the verge of filing for bankruptcy, officials of the group said Friday.
Bertha Lewis, Acorn's chief executive, blamed “relentless, well-funded right-wing attacks” reminiscent of the McCarthy era.
Acorn is holding a teleconference this weekend to discuss plans for a bankruptcy filing, two officials of the group said. They asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to speak to the news media.
Over the last six months, at least 15 of the group’s 30 state chapters have disbanded and have no plans of re-forming, Acorn officials said. The California and New York chapters, two of the largest, have severed their ties to the national group and have independently reconstituted themselves with new names. Several other state groups are also re-forming outside the Acorn umbrella, and will not be affected if the national organization files for bankruptcy.
This week, the Maryland chapter announced that it would not reopen its offices, which were shuttered in September in the wake of a widely publicized series of video recordings made by two conservative activists, posing as a prostitute and a pimp, who secretly filmed Acorn workers providing them tax advice.

Since any PAC, or political figure would be called out for contributing to this sleazy outfit, they seem to not be able to get those local folks to contribute...Hmmmmm ??? I figured with all the voters they found, ya know dead folks, pets, illegal aliens, homeless, that they could raise some operating funds,....
One less hindrance to this November's elections.
Good-bye, and good riddance!!! Yes they can weasel, re-organize, re-name themselves, because they are like roaches when you turn a light on,.....you can get a lot of them, but there is always a couple that make an escape.
Unless the BHO admin, authorizes a bailout?

While it is a good thing that they are going away. Unfortunately I fear it will make little difference as most of their goals were achieved. Most notably yesterday, with the house ramming through health care. And if the Senate doesn't stop it, we will see immigration reform an cap and trade right behind it. This WILL bankrupt the US. We are already well on our way as it is.

I have heard that they're funding is being reinstated by court order so it seems they will be around for some time!

NOT so fast....

Acorn folds
The national group ACORN is folding, an official there, Kevin Whelan, said in an emailed statement:
The ACORN Association Board met on Sunday March 21 and approved a set of steps to responsibly manage the process of bringing its operations to a close over the coming months. These include:
* Closing ACORN’s remaining state affiliates and field offices by April 1st; and
* Developing a plan to resolve all outstanding debts, obligations and other issues.
ACORN’s members have a great deal to be proud of--from promoting to homeownership to helping rebuild New Orleans, from raising wages to winning safer streets, from training community leaders to promoting voter participation—ACORN members have worked hard to create stronger to communities, a more inclusive democracy, and a more just nation.
ACORN was always a very decentralized group, with a great deal of its activity and power concentrated in local chapters from New York to Arkansas -- the strongest of which will survive. The collapse of the national group, though, reflects the impact of a conservative assault that never prompted any prosecutions.
BHO threw them under the bus,...and so it goes...

Wow.
This is akin to Adolf eliminating the SA (brownshirsts), although in a bloodless fashion.

Who wants a bunch of troublemakers around after they've outlived their usefulness? The Gop leaders (whoever they are these days) will do the same to the tea partyers after the elections and for the same reasons. No politician likes a political force they can't control. ACORN made it easy by being corrupt. The Tea Party will be harder to dismantle or co-opt, but you know Boehner and McConnell will try.

We all need to be careful, and very alert. ACORN is not going away, it is changing shape and form. Like a Hydra, the local offices are changing names, re-incorporating as a newly minted organization - and are still staffed by the very same people who were corrupt to begin with. We need to find out the new names, and get the publicity out as to who they are. This is a dangerous outfit, and we need to continue our vigilance.
-
The groups that reorganized took the money with them. Watch where the people go.
This is how communists operate, as well as scammers. Once Acorn goes out of business they can't be sued, also, by breaking it up they give themselves a plausible defense against a RICO prosecution. By breaking up it gives the appearance that it is not an "on going criminal conspiracy" but instead becomes a series of separate groups who are "Plagued by allegations".
-
I don't think that they are going away, they are just re-organizing and will be back under different business names and I wouldn't
surprised if most of them were hired to run obamacare along with the 16,000 new IRS agents.

One of the other things to consider is that the terrorist organizations around the world are doing the same thing - disbanding or moving away from strong central organizations calling the shots, to local cells who have little or nothing to do with each other. Sounds just like what ACORN is doing.
Here's today's blog article with some of the names for the new, rebranded ACORN:
http://liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/03/23/acorn-swap/ (http://liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/03/23/acorn-swap/)
"Critics point to a variety of new local organizations that are springing up to apparently take ACORN's place. In Brooklyn, New York the ACORN office now has a new sign: "New York Communities for Change," and in Massachusetts the president of the new group, "New England United for Justice" is listed as Maude Hurd, the president of ACORN, in its articles of Organization.
There are a growing number of such local groups replacing ACORN, according to Matthew Vadum, of the Capital Research Center. He says ACORN Housing has changed its name to Affordable Housing Centers of America, Inc., and that other ACORN connected groups include: Arkansas Community Organizations, Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, and Missourians Organizing for Reform Empowerment.
"This is a trick, a public relations trick," says Vadum, calling the move an attempt "to dupe Congress and the American people to think they have gone away and they have not." He says "the same people are running the new chapters that have sprung up and in some cases, out of the same offices.""

Yesterday it was announced that their funding would be reinstated by Executive Order of President Sotero.

As I told the Associated Press yesterday the rumors of ACORN’s demise are greatly exaggerated.
Like the T-1000 android assassin in the movie Terminator 2 ACORN has an uncanny ability to pull itself back together even after being blown to bits. Its various state chapters which are busy pretending to break away from the national group with re-unite in a new as yet unnamed organization in the not-too-distant future. Count on it.
Even the date planned for the vote fraud consortium’s shutdown is a joke. It announced it is closing its national offices on April 1, i.e. April Fool’s Day.
Ha ha. Very funny, ACORN.
Of course ACORN has long treated the public as fools as it extracted millions of tax dollars, ran roughshod over electoral integrity laws across the nation, and contributed to the subprime mortgage crisis by strong-arming banks into making loans to people they knew couldn’t afford to pay them back. ACORN’s crimes are too numerous to list here.
ACORN’s best-funded affiliate isn’t going anywhere. ACORN Housing Corp. Inc., which recently changed its name to Affordable Housing Centers of America Inc. is still in business.
And even though ACORN Housing is currently the subject of a massive U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development investigation it’s still number one in the heart of President Obama.
While America was distracted by Democrats’ attempts to unconstitutionally ram government-run healthcare down the throats of the American people, the Obama administration began preparing to resume funding to what’s left of ACORN.
In a March 16 memo Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director Peter Orszag quietly ordered federal agencies to resume funding the group whose employees were caught on hidden camera videos last year condoning a variety of crimes including child prostitution and tax evasion.
The memo came a week after renegade federal judge Nina Gershon of the Eastern District of New York made permanent her temporary injunction prohibiting Congress from cutting off funding for ACORN.
The memo also came despite the fact that the Department of Justice is planning to appeal Gershon’s ruling and seek a stay pending appeal.
It’s unclear why the Obama administration isn’t doing the responsible thing and waiting for the case to work its way through the judicial system.
Could the OMB be moving at lightning speed to restore funding for ACORN, which is under indictment in Nevada for election fraud, because ACORN is in dire financial straits? Perhaps it’s a reward for ACORN’s loyal support in the ObamaCare battle.
One thing’s for sure: ACORN will rise from the grave as soon as it thinks the coast is clear.

(please insert profanity)........ >:(
I thought they were going away, but they just launder funds, regroup, and scurry out from the rocks right before the next election I suppose, by than the illegal aliens will be American citizens, and all those votes will be for the re-election of their biggest fans, the progressive, liberal, bastards!!!!!
I should have known better. :'(

Darn, TW....you got my hopes up with the title of the thread.....
I thought hoped it might be a story of a mad cow out-break in Congress.......
-
For clarification, Haz and tt are NOT like roaches, ACORN and the slimy folks that fund and enforce this corrupt org. ARE.
Sorry Peg...I was hoping the massive amount of evidence and the truth about these scumbags would make them go away.....
I guess I forgot how close BHO is to this group....and the Saul Alinsky playbook, utilized by these usurping bastards. (Not Haz & tt)..
;D

Four words, TW.
I told you so.
