The Associated Press
PARIS — France's ambassador to the U.S. has asked Gov. Rick Perry to pardon a Texas death row inmate married to a Frenchwoman.
Hank Skinner faces execution Wednesday night in Huntsville for the killings of his then-girlfriend and her two adult sons in 1993 in Pampa, Texas.
French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero says "our ambassador in Washington has asked the governor of Texas to pardon Skinner" or to suspend the execution and heed Skinner's request for further investigation.
Skinner maintains his innocence.
Valero told an online briefing Wednesday that President Nicolas Sarkozy has offered "France's support" to Skinner's wife, Sandrine Ageorges-Skinner.
France is firmly opposed to the death penalty.

In prison.
By the time I'm writing this, he should be standing in front of his maker, his former girlfriend, and her adult sons.

After 17 years, whats left to investigate?

He should be killed immediately based on nothing more than the French are bitching about it. Bill T.

It's a standard practice with condemned Foreign nationals, for their Ambassador to make a plea on their behalf.
They are generally ignored unless there are Diplomatic considerations involved.

You mean like not arresting their ambassador for DUI, and running into a school bus? Bill T.

That's diplomatic immunity. As far as diplomatic considerations, they are zip in this case as the guy is NOT a foriegn national. Tx. on the other hand is tone deaf to diplomatic considerations, and just common sense on this stuff and it pissed me off when I lived there. Specifically there is a treaty called the Vienna Convention. It says that when a foriegn national is arrested they are to be advised that they have the right to make a call to their embassy. Texas ignored this on several occasions going so far as to execute a Mexican National who was never advised of that right. Now personally, I shed no tears, but treaties are based on quid pro quo. If we want an American popped in Mexico (or name your S hole country) to be able to let our embassy know what's going on, we have to do the same. In this case, given the guy was American and never a French resident or national ,and the woman married him knowing he'd killed his last SO (where do these women come from?) the French don't have a legal leg to stand on. They ask as a formality for a commutation, BO will deny it, and nothing will change.

Hey Tom
Are you any kin to the Bogans in Texas and Oklahoma. I married a Bogan and have two BIL's and several nephews in Texas.
My wife also has some aunts and uncles in Oklahoma. :) Maybe we need to look into the family tree.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

First off this turd murdered three people on U.S. soil. 17 years ago he should have been crispy crittered.
Second, when the hell have we listened to France. They have never killed anyone yet. WW1, WW2 and every other war that they have been in they have yet to fight or get a confirmed kill. The only thing they do is leave stains in thier shorts and drop perfectly good guns.
The French foreign legion. First rule to be in the legion, you cannot be french to join up. (they do not take cowards)

Tell the French that this is ain't France and that all criminals should have to face the consequences in whatever country they commit crimes in!
It sounds like the convict isn't even French. String him up!

Because you're sane? Look, the Court's reasons are urelated to the diplomatic one's, probably an I left undotted somewhere. The diplomatic ones? The guy isn't a French national. Sarkosy is playing to the home team and has done his bit. Unless we owe the French a favor, or want them to owe us one, these are two seperate issues.

Knowing only what I have seen here (and knowing that is not the whole story...one way or another) if I had been the judge, I would have granted the stay, not related to anything the French Ambassador had to say.
While I favor the death penalty, I feel that because it can never be undone, there needs to be much care in guaranteeing as fair and through examination of the evidence as possible.
In recent years, I have read reports of several death row inmates who have been proven innocent by use of modern DNA testing. I have also see two cases where a man convicted of rape and having served many years in prison has been exonerated by DNA evidence.
Again, with what I know of this case, the guy looks very guilty, however, I don't think it is outside of our society's responsibility in using the death penalty to perform this DNA test.
If it is possible to use DNA testing on the available evidence, it should be done.
This DNA test is not required to prove the guilt of this man. If it is inconclusive, he burns.
But if it is able to prove, without doubt, that he could not have committed the murders, he walks.
We have enough time to perform these tests.

This really is a non story.
The "wife" married a condemned murderer to advance her opposition to the death penalty. by whatever means she gained the attention of some one who had the pull to tell the Ambassador to make the request, but except for the not so happy couple no one really gives a crap, they are just going through the motions of Diplomacy.

Do'nt the French know that you just do'nt mess with Texas. ;D

The French think they still own Texas.... Don't they know we kicked their ass once we can do it again?
