I love the .45 Colt...so much that I've eshewed the .44 Mag and other magnum revolvers to really get to know this cartridge. I like it as it can be a really pussycat in cowboy loads, is pretty formidable in its "standard" loading (255 gr at 800-900 fps is nothing to sneeze at) and can be a real barnburner in "Ruger only" loads (e.g., 260 gr at 1250 fps). I have a Blackhawk, 2 Vaqueros and a Winchester 92 in this caliber. I'd really like to get a S&W Mountain Gun or 4" Redhawk in it as well.
I really liked the Taurus 450 when it was out...was really sad to see it discontinued. Felt it was the equivalent of a .44 Spl Bulldog...just in a caliber I loved. Used to be able to get those for less than $300. Now that they are discontinued, they routinely sell for $450-500 if in great condition.
Got a reasonably good deal on Gunbroker for this one. I'm pretty stoked to get it and start playing.

Congratulations kpr, I too love the 45 Colt. I only have the Uberti "Cowboy" version, but it is flawless, and feel totally comfortable when used with Winchester 225gr Silvertip JHP's as a home defense cartridge. (I rotate them around) ::)
The Magtech Cowboy ammo, and Winchester's, are very accurate, and a breeze to shoot. Taurus has consistently made great revolvers, and you found a great package.
In a snub no less!!! Fantastic. Please let us know how it works out.
P.S. They work on zombies... ;D

Nice pick up!
So nice to get new porn from anyone other than Billt! ;D

I'd never thought of a snub nose 45colt as a replacement for a 44spl, but that makes sense. The only 45colt that I've still got is an "old model" Vaquero, that I've been using as a feild gun when I go out to the woods. The Taurus would make a handy shoulder holster pistol for the same function (but with less than the 300gr loads).

Is 45 Colt strictly a "big gun" round ? Or can you get it in a K frame, or GP 100 size pistol ?
I like the S&W Model 27, and the Redhawk, but they are to large for my hand.

Grats on the 450. I had a Titanium one years ago that got stolen from me. Mine was bright blue finished. I would LOVE to have it back.

When I saw the title of this thread, and its author, Kilo, I immediately pictured a half track with a quad mount fifty. Does that make me a bad person? ;D

I **believe** the 450 is a K frame sized gun...at least that's what I've read on the intertubes.

Ooohhh. You know what? That IS a hole in my collection!

Never leave a hole unfilled, ;)
Congrats on your new addition, you'll enjoy that one!
KPR, does it again! ;D

Love my .45 colts. I think it is a WAAAAAY under developed round. This is due primarily (IMHO) to the vast numbers of old Colts and such out there that would come 'unmade' if a full power or 'magnum' load was fired from them. Really, too bad that it is that way as the .45 colt could be a real thumper (as from a Redhawk or Thompson).
Ruger makes that nice little SA Montado but it will not handle 'real loads'. For me that would be a great carry piece if it would handle the power.

Nice find, kilopaparomeo.
Hazcat: I'm with you. Ruger really missed the mark by not developing the GP-100 series into 5-shot .44SPL and .45LC. The 3" fixed-sight model would be especially suited to the "Bulldog" role.... 8)

If Ruger put out a Gp in 45colt I'd be first line to buy one.

What a nifty addition to the collection. I'm not showing any envy here, am I?
