I hope none of you guys were flying in for the Machine Gun Shoot from Michigan in an airplane. Two nights ago a Michigan man wrecked his Piper Cherokee just a few miles short of the Big Airport across town from where i fly out of. He is alive and well and says he ran it out of fuel thanks to stronger than expected headwinds. When teh cops arrived they were probably cornfused as they dont usually keep up with goings on down in bullitt county...they found multiple machine guns and thousands of rounds of ammo for those weapons.
So if your name is Allen Friedlander...I hope you get to feeling better...and if you need someone to shoot your guns while you are in teh hospital, ill keep em goin for you... ;D

Crashing is better than shooting one down by accident!

A friend of mine in High School was out hunting with a .22 on his family farm when he saw a small plane flying overhead.
Being young and stupid, maybe 14 or 15 years old, he took a shot at it.
Nothing seemed to happen till the plane's engine started to sputter and shut down. He has hit the fuel line.
Luckily the pilot managed to make an emergency landing in the field my friend was in and promptly asked to speak to his dad.
My friend didn't so into what his punishment was expect to mention it was not pleasant.
As far as I know, he is the only person I know who has shot down an airplane.

um, running out of fuel is a big no no. one of the 1st things on the preflight check list is to check the quanity and quality of the fuel in the tank. when in doubt SOP is to get more fuel.

Hard to judge, but seeing the fuel gauge on "E" means time to land NOW....
Flight plan should have calculated GPH, with current weather and a cushion of fuel. I know fuel prices "suck" for everyone, but having that extra $50 in the tank, could have helped.
Glad he "landed" safely.
