Title: Left the Range Postings
Post by: scott.ballard on April 08, 2010, 12:07:00 PM
I will be out of pocket for a while for work.  Stop cheering ;)

If you are interested in the information I use for the Left the Range postings for fallen officers, it comes from:

www.ODMP.org

They'll appreciate your support.

Scott, I would not crap on one of the posts by mentioning this, but this thread gives me the opportunity to point out to you that the "Left the Range" forum was intended for Forum members, friends, family, Mentors and others who have been important in the lives of Forum members.
If it had been intended for the types of posts you have been adding it would contain an entry for every US Service member killed in Iraq or Afghanistan.
If you want to do the research to add them I will shut up  ;D

Cops have personal, local, and National Memorials, the "Left the range" Forum is meant as a memorial to Friends like this;

http://www.downrange.tv/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1838

The Generic reports you posted are strangers on an (semi ? ) Official form.
Gunman was our friend and he is missed here.

From the post describing the thread:

This board will be a place specifically and ONLY for posting Obituaries..condolences..comments and memories about the person who is gone and has Left The Range.
Please keep information etc for each specific person compacted to their specific thread..

I posted the first one:  no complaints.

A second: No complaints.

After 10: It becomes a problem.

From the PM:

Scott, I posted a reply to your "left the range" post.
It is not intended to take anything away from the Officers killed, although the one killed up here by Bodie Miller's cousin seems to have brought it on himself by needlessly being a prick.
The reason for my reply is to educate you and other new members about the real reason for the Forum, and to introduce the founder of that forum , my (our ) friend Dave Radditz.
Be safe.
Tom Bogan

I understand and have corrected the problem.  I was not going to be able to stay completely up to date with that information due to work travel, so it seems to work better this way.

For those concerned, please visit www.odmp.org

For the rest of you...God Bless your First Amendment rights.

Not "a problem", just that this post gave me a chance to comment with out taking anything away from the Officers you have posted about.

I think the best solution to this discussion would be a new Forum Topic for Service people who have left the range, ie. Military, Police, Firefighters, EMT's, ect. that have lost their lives keeping us Safe and defending our freedom! I think it would be worth the space to Honor them!! I for one Appreciate the posts, but as Tom points out this Topic was intended for a slightly different purpose. So Marshal'ette can we start an new one?

I agree, Guns, I too liked the posts.

The only existing Topic I saw that might work was Prayer Request, but it also has an intent more personal to Forum members.

Maybe a "Service Members Memorial" Board....with maybe a single running thread for each 'branch' of military, LEO, Fire & EMT, MoH...(like the non-gun or joke threads in the Cafe' board)?? Then it wouldn't get bogged down with separate threads overlapping and such.

Just a thought............. because I agree that these fine folks are important and should be known, but I also agree with the original concept of the 'Left the Range' board being meant for forum-related memorials.

Just my 2 dull pennies.

Peg

I feel the last few suggestions have the right idea.  I appreciated the posts on our brave being honored so much that I forgot the purpose of the section.  I do not want to quit honoring our brave that gave all, but I also want a special place to remember our forum members.

The ball is in your court M'ette.  I'm so glad you have nothing to do but keep us happy ... You are soooooo good at it, and we really appreciate it!
