I have this friend that I've been trying to get out to the range for two years now. When I first asked her to go last night she wasn't to sure she wanted to try, but for some reason she caved. Unfortunately, the only indoor range we have is in a brokendown building that allows only .22 so she really didn't get a good overview what is available and it's cold.
While I'm not the greatest teacher, and since I've mainly taught myself to shoot (with pointers from other shooters and shows on the Outdoor network).
While she couldn't quite get the hang of shooting great Grandpa's .22/.410 in fact she was saying she hoped she never would have to compete. But when I explained the features on my Buckmark, her first shot was in the black. She was able to get quite a few in the black.
I was only scared once...that's because she could become a better shot than I am and if I ever torque her off well you it might not be good.
I don't know if she'll ever be ready to go pistol shopping, but she did sound interested in shooting some clays.
Now all I have to do is figure out how I can get her to say yes to another question that would change my bachelor ways.

Good Job! We can get ;em to our side one at a time.
My best advise for both of your endeavors is "slow and easy" ;D

Full speed ahead on helping her share you love of shooting!
#2 could ruin a wonderful friendship (just kidding)
Good luck on both.
(Forgot to add...Both worked out pretty good for me-coming up on 23 years worth)

That is just how it went with me too. After 32 years, she still "claims" to be the better shot. Neither one of us is in any rush to settle the question. Just fun to keep pickin'. Good luck, and.. Breath, Relax, Aim and Squeeze Slowly. Works well in both endeavors. Mac.

Exactly! If we all take at least one new person out this year, just think how the numbers will grow! Keep up the great work!

+1 Everyone on this site should take a new shooter out. Lets get this going, and see how many people we can convert. I will pledge right now, that within the next month I will have a new shooter at the range.

I have one wanting to go, just need to work out the time for both of us.

I've got a buddy who's a bit of a liberal, but I used his shop to secretly shine up my Sweetie's Christmas present. I was a little apprehensive about what he'd say when he saw what I was working on.
When he saw the pistol his reaction was, "COOL!" . He mentioned three times before I left that he'd like to try it out.
I think he's a "live" one, but just haven't had the time.

See if you can get her to shoot something along the lines of a 9mm, or a .380....if she is a good shot right off of the bat she most likely is a natural.
The second question (if you feel that strong about her, go for it)..plus you have a shooting buddy.
My wife has a 38 snubby...she doesn't like the bigger autos, or for that matter the smaller autos...at least she has a gun and has my six o clock covered.

where I work at I've meet about 7 shooters that belong to a real good range that has high berms a 300 yard rang and some steel targets, we talk about guns shooting and smithing all the time and several people have asked about different types of firearms and shooting and of course our reply is always come on out and give it a try. In the past 2 years we have increased the range clubs membership by 100. Also I have a 17 month old great grandson who I can hardly wait to teach this great sport to as I taught his mom and her dad to shoot but for now he sits on my lap by the computer when I looking for good deals and I say "whats that buddy" his reply Gun pow!

Gman,
On another thread we had talked about 'advertising' (talking about) out sport. As your story shows if we are open about the fact that we like to shoot then people will ask us about gun "stuff" and you will have an opportunity to introduce a new shooter.

Guy's and Gall's, I have taken two new shooters out since this post was put up! One never shot before the other just once (I am calling him new!). They both loved it. The first just ordered a new gun and is getting his CC permitt. I'm still working on the other one, he's a little short on cash. I'm going to keep taking him to the range, and let him use one of my guns until he can get his own.

Because my kids love to shoot, I've been getting their friends to come with us (with parents permission). Get um young and they are hooked for life.
