Title: Show # 41: DOJ amicus brief on D.C. v Heller
Post by: Marshal Halloway on January 16, 2008, 01:09:56 AM
This week's DOWN RANGE Radio heads head-first into controversy as host Michael Bane tackles the DOJ amicus brief on D.C. v Heller, the Supreme Court case addressing whether the District of Columbia's ban on handguns violates the Second Amendment. The Bush DOJ has come down on the side of the District of Columbia, in favor of allowing bans. Bane, along with special guests David Hardy — lawyer, Second Amendment scholar and producer of the documentary IN SEARCH OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT — and Jim Shepherd — Editor of the OUTDOOR WIRE and the SHOOTING WIRE and veteran Washington journalist — look at the harsh implication fot eh Right to Keep and Bear Arms. A must-hear!

MB, Marshal,

Here is another "deafening Silence"...Outddor Channel, and other 'sportsman type" channels.

Why not a LIVE broadcast of industry and legal minds picking apart the DC and US briefs?  It would send a VERY load and visible message.  It would HAVE to be mentioned in the MSM and it would get our displeasure out there.  Or how about running Mr Hardy's' documentary.

On the podcast;

Jim said we are looking short term and we need to look long term.  I respectfully disagree with this statement.  We have been trying to get this before the SC for decades (or longer), and in the mean time trying to stem the tide of 2A infringement.  How much more "long term" can we stand?

As he said we will need to go into "damage control" AGAIN!  We did that and then when we had what we thought we wanted (R pres and congress) then we let them off the hook.  We did not pressure them to correct the mess.  Well NOW is the time to stand up and say NO MORE.

No More voting for the lesser evil, no more blind support, no more being happy with status quo.  NO MORE!

I listened to the broadcast by podcast today. Damn fine show! Both of the guests did a good job explaining the DOJ brief and Michael did a fine job expressing our outrage over the sellout. Glad to see Fred has stepped up and said the DOJ screwed up.

I've always heard "there's no such thing as a stupid question," but I'm going to put that to the test. ;D

Let's say a whole bunch of us gun owners decide to send well thought out, but very stern emails to our representatives in the House and Senate.  Let us further suppose these representatives decide we're serious, and decide to appease us.  What, if any, influence do they have over the SC?  What courses of action do we have, right now, regarding this decision?

The Wall Street Journal's lead editorial today was entitled "Misfire at Justice" and spent half a column criticizing the SG's brief.

Hello, I have been listening to the podcasts for about 2 months now. I'm hooked. I downloaded every show on my ipod and listened to about 50 of them so far. Show #41 was particularly well done. Congratulations. This is just alittle behind the times since #41 was a while back but I want to let you know there are people out there playing catch up with the shows and that includes me.
