you now must sign into some google account deal to sign into youtube.  The only way they will let you do that is if you provide them with a phone number, and it must be real. 

no way in hell I'm going to give out my phone number, WTF.

it is part of googles verification program 

facebook has the same thing.


it is a way for them to prove a genuine user  and not a fake automatically computer generated one

I wouldn't worry about it Tab. If you go on the internet someone has already crawled up your ass...you just don't know about it yet.
