Title: Is Australia really that far away from the US? (semi - rant ending with a smile)
Post by: sledgemeister on April 27, 2010, 05:59:11 AM
On the weekend just past I had a group of people at my range who had never shot before (5). I took a heap of different guns along including 3 x .22's, .357 revolver, .44 Redhawk, .44 Lever, and a .444 Marlin, all had a fantastic time and 2 are wanting to shoot again.  (it was my attempt at expanding international relations, 2 originally from indonesia, 2 from Thailand and 1 from India)

But as luck goes, it seems no good deed goes in my case un punished, the extractor in my Ruger Redhawk broke, one of the arms snapped clean through leaving it essentially now a 4 shot revolver  >:( >:( >:(
I contacted the importer today and this was their response when I asked about getting the spare part ordered

Quote
Hi Sledge,

We have a few Redhawk parts in stock but that is not one of them.

A fresh order for that type of part from Ruger can take from 4 to 6 months.

Cheers, Damien
Honestly 4 - 6 #%^$ing months for a small part that you could fit in a box 1/2 the size of a packet of cigerettes, for %$$ sake a carrier pidgeon would be quicker. As far as I know, we have planes that go between our countries now an even if by boat they are not powered by sail any more. I am at a loss, dumfounded and bloody ropeable atm. trying to work out a way of replacing a part no bigger than a quarter.
I guess I will have to try and find a engineer over here to see if they can make me one up or something or scrap my beloved original year redhawk and buy another sosting me 1100.00, because it seesm I can get a new one straight away, well with in a month any ways.
Spewing!!!!!!

any way heres a couple pics of the day to end my rant on a good note.

Anyone who looks so pleased and happy helping others learn to shoot and who looks so serious when he is shooting just looks great, Sledge.

I love introducing people to shooting, guess thats why I been made the club coach  ???
Really though its a great feeling, just seeing the smile on their dial when you give them a .44 to play with that they have only ever heard about while watching a clint eastwood (patron saint of .44's) movie.
an example of the response I got from the other day. NB this is  a note from my mates wife and although her english is not crash hot I think you can get the jist of what she thought about her experience.

Quote
Thank u for today Rob.It was great experience for all of us.
My heart still pumping after having huge"exercise" with u guys.

I was scream because i felt something in my chest that want to blow up as well after shooting,i felt great because i have never scream that loud before hahahahhaa, thank u Rob^_^

I called my Dad and told him about my experienced with the gun.I thought he will mad to me but he laughed at me:(
He had experienced with the gun i guess...that's why he laughed at me.My Dad asked how about Dhaniel, i told him the stories and he laugh, laugh and laughed...

Thank u Rob, we can make our Dad laughed....^_^
It was one of best memories i ever have.

One day u should have dinner with us,we'll cook Asian food for u.
Do you like spicy food?

Jesus bless u heaps Rob.
HE loves u so much...

Love
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxxxl

Now why wouldnt a bloke want to help and introduce people into shooting with that sort of response?
I think if every shooter took it upon themselves the challenge or responsibility to introduce just one person to shooting and gave them a go our sport, hobby and way of life it would influence more goodwill and understanding than any amount of advertising and court victories ever could.

You really think I look serious? LOL (I just dont like to miss, much)

You touched some folks lives, Sledge, and made them better and happier.  Save that note for Saint Peter.  It is a ticket to heaven.

Maybe focused is a better word than serious.  Can't tell if you are repulsing tin cans that have encroached upon your plinking range, putting down a charging animal or stopping a zombie attack.

Great work on all of it.

Great job introducing more folks to the sport Sledge. Cool pics too. I thought you were royally screwed about the Redhawk. Glad that you found a part at Numbnuts, Numrich, whatever.  :)

in May  ( weekend of the 29/30)   the Aussie Forum  that Sledge and I are also on  is having the Victorian get together  know-en as the AHN Big Bore Shoot  however this one is starting to become the  AHN annual get together  as there are people from all over Australia going to it,   both Rob and my self well be at it

we will also give you guys a report  on how it goes

one of the awards that is given out over the weekend  is spills the most claret  ie  the weatherby eyebrow  one of my good mates won it   when he copped it in the head from the scope on top of his 45/70 leaver  hehe  was a cracker of a shot
I am planning on not getting that one.

so  just getting the check list ready for what we are taking

however I am not sure if I will be able to fit the Fairy wings  with everything else I am taking over on the drive there

Rob also has just had all his vaccinations for when he enters Australia  and for his drive though the north part of Tasmania  I have not heard if he has got his paperwork for the north/south border crossing though ( something about proving that the 2nd head was remove correctly)

The answer to that is obvious. You're going to hire the Quaker a very nice Luxury yacht to sail from Hawaii to Oz so I can tour for a month or so. Expensive, but I'm worth it. In return, a few very large dry bags of "scrap metal used for ballast" (or the nearest Russian translation) might be jettisoned in 20 meters of water at a particular GPS coordinate. Purely by chance. Nothing my Great Uncle Bert didn't do when he was trading guns for whiskey with the IRA back in the Twenties and Thirties. (except he didn't have Scuba and GPS). ;D
FQ13 who is speaking purely hypothetically. Since I'm sure I can get TW, Timothy and Haz o crew, it'll be a bare boat charter and thus much cheaper.
