I am a Paramedic and I watched the show and really enjoyed. The one thing that i saw during the show that didnt seem right was the firing different weapons into the refrigorator. The problem I saw was that it was not realistic. The shots that were made through a empty freezer part. No consideration was made or mentioning about frozen meat, ice cream, or any other objects that are usually kept in the refrigorator, or ine freezer part, unless i missed it. Can you clarify or show some testing that shows realistic shots and the reactions of the bullets that would occur in a home with the refrigorator having normal food and beverages in both the freezer and cold box that would be there if actual circumstances? i do not believe shooting an empty refrigorator is realistic.
Love the show.
Thanks
Michael

For most of mysingle life the only thing in the fridge was beer and pizza boxes.
Beer and pizza take up very little space so the test would be valid.
If you shot the beer cans the beer would leak out.
Wasting beer is a crime against mankind
Michael and Rob are not criminals
QED They must shoot empty refrigerators
The Defense rest.

I gotta agree with the OP.
The test does nothing for me as my freezer is full, with rock hard frozen stuff. I still wouldn't use it for cover but since it's a solid mass, I doubt that any of those calibers shown would do much damage on the opposite side of the freezer box. The refer portion? That's another equation.
Good TV, but in this case, it proves nothing.

Thank's for the link Eric, I did not want to go searching.
Otherwise I agree with RatCatcher. ;D

Ah well, if the choice is standing where the attacker has a clear shot, or masking yourself behind a refrigerator, I'll take my chances with the frig. Until I'm ready to return fire or I can find a better cover.
I suspect it's not a question of finding the best cover...................just find cover, pronto. Upgrade when time and incoming fire permits.
Remember, incoming fire has right of way.

If I can't find cover I will settle for concealment.

The real point of the demonstration was to emphasize that cover is determined by the weapon/cartridge being shot, not by the object. It was also to encourage the viewer to do empirical testing of his personal defense weapon/loads whenever possible to determine how they penetrate and what constitutes cover so you can also use that knowledge AGAINST the bad guy.
For the record, future episodes (probably next week's rerun) will include one-gallon jugs of water in the fridge.
Even if we did pack the fridge with different stuff, there's no guarantee that we'd ever hit the same chunk of food the same way twice. At least with the empty fridge, we achieved consistent resistance for all impacting rounds. We also quantified keyholing and pentration on the exiting side. To me, that IS more relevant than a TV dinner that happened to stop a 9mm while a .40 penetrated a head of lettuce...
And, yes, shooting beer is just plain wrong...
Stay safe,
Mike

And don't forget....it's always fun to shoot stuff for the heck of it!
Stay Safe yourself.... ;)

We shot a fridge with a beanbag round once and it made a heck of a hole in it at 15 yds. Wouldn't you just love to get hit with one of those things?

Yeah guys, like Mike said... we did put jugs in the fridge in a later episode to cover that aspect... but the thing I wanted to show the first time through was how the Fridge itself rated. Not everyone has fully stocked food storage at all times!

Rob is right, some of us single guys would not have a fridge if the take out menus were not stuck on it ;D
