Title: New "old" Marlin
Post by: CJS3 on May 01, 2010, 06:13:14 PM
Picked up the Marlin 336 I had on lay-a-way, mounted a Nikon scope, bore sighted it, and went to the range today. Got four inch groups at 100 yds. Plenty good for 30-30.

Not exactly tactical, but I love the lever guns.

Went $350 on the rifle, and the scope (2.5-6x32) I bought a few years back. I think it was $120.

I took the Marlin and a Winchester, that I've rebuilt, to the range today. I sighted in the scope on the Marlin and got 4inch groups at 100 yards. More than adequate for 30-30. I put 50 rounds through both rifles, and spent a satisfying two hours at the range. Now if I can just get my grandkids in bed,(it's been a long time since my kids were this young, but is it normal for 3 yr olds to have horns) I can call it a pretty good day.

Congrats on the nice rifle.

And, yes, it IS quite common for 3-year olds to have horns.

Even though, I'm a Winchester kinda guy,....the "charity case" I involved myself in with a 336, really showed me how well made they are, and can last more than my lifetime if taken care of.

Very sweet setup. Heck, Wally World had Federal 30/30 ammo 170gr SP, for $11.97. :o Had to grab a box to add to the stash for that price.
