I needed to go on here and type quickly this noon. While driving down the road this morning I heard a news report. A simple one sentence statement. A statement with absolutely nothing to it except to rile anti-gunners. A statement with absolutely nothing to do with the event it was tied to. The statement ...
The Times Square bomber, Faisal Shahzad, purchased a gun at a gun show in March.
That is all ... nothing else ...

Bloomberg was testifying before congress today and was using this as a reason to push for new firearm legislation (dont let a good crisis go to waste). He wants to close the "terrorist loophole" and make it impossible for terroists to buy guns -- legally. He said that something like 1,000+ terrorists have bought a gun recently in this country and went on and on about how we have to keep them from getting guns.....
Did you catch that.... This dude drives a car bomb into Times Square and Bloomy wants to ban guns.... makes a lot of sense doesnt it.
If his statistic is even true, here is the REAL issue.... There are 1,000+ terrorists on U.S. soil! DO SOMEHTING ABOUT THAT! Dont focus your time and efforts on trying to keep them from buying a handgun or a rifle. If you know they are here and you know they have ties to terrorists, then ARREST THEM! Does he really think that a no-buy list is gonna stop some terrorist who is hell bent on getting a gun? Hey, maybe we should close the enriched uranium loophole and start a no-buy list for that stuff..... we dont want a terrorist to be able to buy enriched uranium do we? We should put their names on a list.
A the very least they should try to keep them from obtaining the items they need to make a bomb? But you will NEVER see a list of people not approved to buy propane or gasoline or cars..... that would be racist or something.

Yep.
They want to give the attorney general the right to ban anyone that he wants from owning firearms..... The problem with the bill is that it will make the AG the new Gun Czar. It puts no limitations or requirements on what the criteria is for making that decision would be..... it is totally up to the discretion of the AG and he can make the decision based on whatever he wants. Not only could he ban specific individuals, but he could make sweeping bans like say perhaps anyone know to be associated with the Tea Party (they are extremists after all) or everyone on the No-Fly list (there are countless law abiding citizens on that list... Hell, Ted Kennedy was on it for a while).
The left is screaming profiling and racism over the AZ thing, but this new gun law would be blatent discrimination.
Exit Question: How is the 2nd Amendment supposd to keep us safe from a tyrannical govt when govt makes all the rules that define gun ownership

"Terror gap in our gun laws" If someone meets the criteria to not get a gun, I have no problem. However, we have all seen too many times where the "Do Not Fly List" (DNFL) has failed in both missing the most flagrant of offenders, and when they have put six year olds that haven't even been tardy to kindergarten on the list.
This tie to the DNFL is like linking gun sales to coffee shop gossip >:(

BTW..... according to the NY Times the stat Bloomberg used in his testimony -- 1,100 terrorists that bought guns -- is derived from 1,100 people on the No-Fly list making purchses.

Someone should remind Hizzonner that by law, terrorist acts and murder of any kind are illegal. Using his own logic we can conclude that laws banning or controlling guns to control those acts are not necessary, as laws previously passed have eliminated terrorism and murder.
