Moose Slams Through Car Windshield In NH
NEW DURHAM, NH (WBZ) ―
* Moose On The Loose In Gardner
(http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm182/twyacht/moose2PIX.jpg)
A New Hampshire driver narrowly escaped serious injuries after she crashed into a moose on a New Durham roadway.
Constance Bickford, 56, was driving along Route 11 near Quaker Rd. when she hit the moose.
The force of the impact threw the moose onto the hood of Bickford's car and through the windshield. The moose landed in the passenger seat of the car, only inches from Bickford.
The moose died in the crash. Bickford was treated for minor injuries.

Not exactly my idea of moose huntin'.
I hope she got to take the thing home!

That's not that uncommon. I used to live about 3 miles from there.
Deer are just something you know to watch for, but Moose are not that rare.

Gosh I hope it wasn't the..........

I'm glad Ms Bickford was okay.
At the Johnson Space Flight Center year ago, most of the injuries were caused by deer! Seems quite a few inhabited the "back 40" of the property. A lot of employees/contractors used the back gate and quite frequently would result in an "encounter."

Years ago I took a week long course at the National Fire Academy and a couple of guys from NH were telling us that they do a LOT of auto/moose collision calls. Seems the mooses don't obey the crossing signs.

I have a friend that narrowly escaped being run over by a moose a few years ago. We were hunting black bear in northern Maine and he was waiting on the side of a logging trail for our guide to pick him up. Apparently, it's a local form of entertainment to "run" moose by driving behind them (they won't veer off, unless you push them too hard). Our guide laughed so hard I thought he might wet himself, as he drove over a mile behind the moose, knowing my friend would be waiting, in the dark, on the side of the road. Well, by the time my friend saw the moose, he was forced to dive head first into the bushes to avoid being plowed by the exceptionally large bull. He didn't seem to appreciate the humor of the situation as much as the rest of us. At least, until he was sure he hadn't filled his pants. :o

Not to correct Haz or anything, but the proper grammar is "Mooseses are big". "Meese is big" is also acceptable.

Some day people will pay for a ride like that.

A second career for Palin? The Wasilla thrill ride amusement park? Wolves from airplanes, snow machines with Todd, and moose (meese?, mooses?) with a Honda. ;D
FQ13 who is really, really sorry, but just couldn't resist. C'mon, you know its funny. ;)

Actually the meat is probably OK. Most often when Moose get hit it breaks their legs,( they are as tall or taller than a riding horse) and they fall onto the hood. This one probably broke its neck when it hit the seats and stuff.
She's lucky on 2 counts, The moose died instantly, (would YOU want to share the front sat with 1500lbs of freaked out animal ? ) and she was alone. If some one had been in the passenger seat they would NOT have had a good day.

Moose on the loose freak me out. :D With deer, my rule of thumb is to drive right through the damn things . Ignore the breaks and the wheel, just keep driving (my personal score= Quaker 1, bambi zero and a RENTAL Crown Victoria [picture the Quaker doing the snoopy dance] also zero). The damage a 150 pound animal will do is nothing compared to what putting the car into a ditch or around a tree will do. If you swerve or lock up the brakes, you might just do the latter. A 1500 pound animal though? Thats like hitting a wall. No matter how it goes down it will suck for all involved.
