Vintage Ordnance are producing clones of the FP-45 Liberator pistol for just $599.50 + S&H.

Though our reproduction is sold as a firearm and exceeds the mechanical strength of the original through the use of superior materials and vastly tighter chamber and headspace tolerances, WE STRONGLY ADVISE CUSTOMERS NOT TO FIRE THE PISTOL. During production in 1942, several examples were taken from the assembly line to test under repetitive fire. Reports indicated that after 50 rounds of service ball ammunition the testers felt the weapons were no longer safe to fire. They were simply never designed handle a steady diet of powerful .45 ACP. They were made to fire ten rounds. They are what they are.

Let me get this straight. A POS pistol, designed to be fired into a German officer's back at a range of two feet, and then dropped while you blended into the crowd is now for sale? It's "only" $600, but you shouldn't fire it more than fifty times? Gee, where can I buy one? ::) ::) ::)
FQ13 who would rather have a SIG Mosquito (sorry Haz) ;D

I am all over this deal as long as the decimal is moved one place to the left making it $59.95.  Then it makes a world of sense, great for a bugout bag.

But wait, there's more!!!!

The original FP-45 is a clever and efficiently designed weapon but it has never received any accolades for operational safety.  Once it is loaded, the only safe way to handle it is with the zinc cocking piece turned fully 90% to the right or left so that the rear corner of the pistol’s grip frame will prevent it from rotating into firing position.  If the cocking piece is re-aligned and the guide pin inserted through the hole in the cover slide as illustrated in the original instructions, THE PISTOL IS COCKED AND READY TO FIRE.  IF DROPPED IN THIS STATE, IT COULD EASILY DISCHARGE CAUSING INJURY OR DEATH.   Some worn original guns will have no mechanical means to hold the zinc cocking piece securely in the safe 90 degree position because the bottom of the firing pin boss is worn off from repetitive careless scrapping across the steel frame.  There is no safe way to handle these pistols.   A loaded pistol should never be un-cocked by lowering the zinc cocking piece when it is aligned in firing position.  To do so would place the firing pin, under spring pressure, directly on top of the primer of the chambered cartridge.  IF THE PISTOL WAS JARRED OR DROPPED IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY TO DISCHARGE.

In light of the above mentioned facts relating to the relative safety of the FP-45 in general, we will not drill the firing pin hole completely through the cover slide.  Therefore, our reproduction as shipped is technically incapable of firing and significantly safer than the original pistol. VINTAGE ORDNANCE IS NOT LIABLE FOR INJURY OR DEATH RESULTING FROM PURCHASERS MODIFYING OUR PRODUCT IN THIS UNAPPROVED MANNER.

So will this be regulated as being an actual gun ???

I downloaded the original blue prints and thought of making a superior copy, without stamped sheet metal. Just to do it, ATFE rules applying of course.

Only in America would they try to sell a $600 non-firing replica of a $2 gun.

But if you call in the next 15 minutes will double your order, that's right TWO $2 dollar POS non functioning pistols for the amazing price of $600

Even Billy Mays would have a tough time selling this one.

You forgot the oriental bamboo steamer and the ginsu knives. Plus the clapper. Or maybe just the clap, which seems preferable to having to own this thing. You couldn't even sell it England. ;)

You know, in thinking about this pistol, I started thinking the only way to own one was to keep it unloaded and locked away, if not also partially disassembled.  Then, when needed, it was loaded and because extremely unsafe and dangerous to even capable shooters.

Then I realized that THIS is probably the impression  hoplophobes have of ALL firearms....

This one IS dangerous just sitting on a table loaded and ready.  Any shock to the table could tumble the gun to the floor and cause a discharge.

The same could be said for Sarah Brady and Chuck Schumer. Still, I'd pitch in to buy them both one from the board.

Am I wrong here, or does this pistol have Lawsuits! written all over it?

Its the only gun in history that took less time to produce as it did to load.

It was designed to sneak up behind the guy and put a bullet in his head and take his gun... you only need to do that once.

*And to answer your question..... 3 weeks before they issue the recall -- Zing! ;D

Ruger doen't recall guns, they upgrade.  ;)

Lets be fair. Ruger's would probably fire the reccomended ten rounds. The recalled model would let it fire 50, AND, you'd get  a free hat.
FQ13 who wonders if those are such great advertising. Every time I see a guy in a Ruger hat I'm tempted to ask "Which model did you have recalled"? ;D

I was reading your post FQ about your comments on Ruger and there was a Ruger ad right underneath. It was absolutely hilarious cause it looked as if it was part of your post. I called my wife into the room and she thought the same thing till I showed her it was a advertisement.  :)
