Illegal Aliens Induce a Boycott of Arizona
Sonora – Businessmen and organizations in Sonora and Tamaulipas invoked a boycott of Arizona in support of their countrymen residing in Arizona and called for “A Day Without Mexicans.” The director of the Camara Nacional de Comercio, (Mexican National Chamber of Commerce), Gustavo Claussen, said that the boycott will be coordinated at the national level. He said that “A Day Without Mexicans” will be the official name of the boycott and will be a means of rejecting the application of Arizona’s SB-1070 which criminalizes the undocumented. Claussen clarified that this will be the means to modify or repeal the law. The states of Sonora and Arizona share around 560 kilometers of border and have supported one another with cultural and commercial interaction for more than 50 years. “We don’t want to exaggerate, but we will not set one foot into Arizona and we want to demonstrate our firm position that we disagree with this law,” stated Claussen.
Tamaulipas agrees.
The President of the Chamber in Reynosa, Ramiro Cienfuegos, stated that all of the members of the Chamber are in agreement and will stand in solidarity with the boycott because their countrymen are victims of discrimination and persecution in the state of Arizona, and should not be punished for only wanting to work. “We urge our citizens this Thursday not to buy anything in the stores in the United States and to not buy anything made by the Gringos exported into this country,” said Cienfuegos.

So the law is working!

Agreed. We should not employ anyone illegally imported into this country.

And again, agreed, and thank you. I'll send you a Christmas card.
What I don't understand is why I've gotten so much crap from board members for arguing that disputes can be settled peacefully, through law and dialogue. See how easy that was? Didn't have to lift a finger (well, maybe one finger... ;D).

I wonder if the Day Without Mexicans will apply to illegals seeking government assistance also?

Can we make that days, months and years without Mexicans? C'mon show us how pisssed you really are. Maybe get the Mexican government into it. Have them forcibly close the border to stop their citizens from coming here illegally. That'll teach us. ;D
FQ13 who is enjoying this far too much

Pfft! A day without Mexicans will be like going to war w/o the French.

You might have to mow your own yard, take care of your own kid, bus your own table and make your own bed in a hotel. Somehow, I think I can deal.
FQ13 who once again is probably going straight to hell for saying that, but is finding few reasons not to tell the damn truth. (I blame Itchiban and Tom ;D).

I was in Chicago sometime in the late 60s and I remember the news were covering a protest by Welfare Recipients. Don't remember what they were protesting, but they said they would not cash their checks till their grievance was addressed.
The government hung tough and recipients relented and cashed the checks anyway..

that is very cool
now only if we could get that over here..

I think it is a good idea for them to get together and boycott! Makes it easier to round them up and ship them back where they came from!

CALIFORNIA'S IMMIGRATION LAW VERY SIMILAR TO SB 1070
CA Cities Can Now Boycott Each Other
California's penal code section 834b requires, not merely permits, law enforcement to attempt to verify the immigration status of people who are suspected of being in the US illegally.
But there are basic differences.
The California law requires verification of immigration status when a person has been arrested. Undersection 834 of the Calif. Penal Code, that means when a person has been taken into custody. Arizona requires verification when there has been "any lawful stop, detention, or arrest." Note that HB2162, the amendments to the original Arizona law, inserted "any lawful stop, detention or arrest" in place of "contact .Arizona requires verification when there is "reasonable suspicion" that the person being stopped, detained,or arrested might be in the US illegally. California does not require "reasonable" suspicion. Verification is required only if it is "suspected" that the person is in the US illegally.
But one difference stands out. Nothing in the California Penal Code Section 834b prohibits police from basing their decision on a person's race or ethnicity the way HB2162 explicitly prohibits Arizona police from considering "race, color, or national origin" when carrying out their duties "except to the extent permitted by the United States or Arizona Constitution." Again, Arizona's SB1070 prohibited police from solely basing their actions on "race, color or national origin." HB2162 deleted the word "solely," which means that the police cannot consider these factors at all unless it is permitted by the US and Arizona Constitutions.
Apparently some Californians haven't noticed they live in a glass house. It's time they stop throwing stones at Arizona.
