http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2010/05/chicago-mayor-daley-offers-to-shoot-reporter-to-prove-gun-ban-works.html
At a news conference to discuss Chicago's gun ban and the Supreme Court's pending ruling on the issue, a reporter from the Chicago Reader asked him if the ban was effective.
"Since guns are readily available in Chicago even with a ban in place, do you really think it’s been effective?" asked Mick Dumke.
“Oh!” Daley said. “It’s been very effective!”
He grabbed a rifle, held it up, and looked right at me. He was chuckling but there was no smile.
“If I put this up your—ha!—your butt—ha ha!—you’ll find out how effective this is!”
“If I put a round up your—ha ha!”
Dumke said the room became "very, very quiet" before reporters realized he was joking.
Daley's press flak said the mayor didn't regret the remarks but said by offering to place the gun in the reporter's rear end "could admittedly be considered a less-than-ideal example."

Stupidity at it's finest. The sad thing is, that this kind of display is becoming more common with our elected officials. It says a lot about the city of Chicago that they keep voting for these asshats. Seems to me, that the mob never left Chicago, they just got elected... ::)

Daley's Comment
A new low, even for a scumbag like Shortshanks. The reporter asking this question ought to be ashamed. Shortshanks though, has no sense of shame. Using an Officer's death to further a political agenda?
Asked whether Wortham's death provides a boost for the city's battle for what he calls "commonsense gun laws," the mayor said: "Oh, I hope so. . . . Here's a young man [who] served twice in Iraq. Father's a police officer, an unbelievable police officer. You better believe it. It does add [momentum], and it should. It should wake up America."
Let's just point out that even with the handgun ban in effect, Chicago's murder rate has remained higher than the national average for years and is climbing again.
And it would be pretty safe to assume that the gun that killed Officer Wortham IV wasn't legally purchased, wouldn't have been registered even if it was, and the person carrying it wouldn't have had either an FOID card or any so-called "liability" insurance.
And finally, let's remind everyone that the only two legal and registered handguns on the scene were the handguns that provided retired Sgt. Wortham a small measure of vengeance for his murdered son - and most likely, the service revolver is the one Daley didn't want him to ever be able to register upon his retirement.
Let us bury our brother in peace Mayor Daley. Then you can rot in hell for your part in turning this city over to the scum, dregs and non-contributing members of society who are given free rein to kill a man who served his country, wished to serve his city and worked tirelessly to better his community.
UPDATE: John Kass goes to town on Shortshanks.

Daley is an ass.

Is this the "Chicago way"? Can this be what we can expect starting in January when the new congress starts session? We've got a Chicago politician in the White House, is this what's coming? Count on it guys!

JC, No the mob never left Chicago, it's still called "the outfit" and who do you think kept Daley in office.
Daddy D was mobbed up up to his eye balls, the only reason Baby D would not be is if the Mafia suddenly adopted some sort of standards.
And, Yes Bill, that is exactly the Chicago way. >:(

In front of reporters and on camera the Mayor picks up a rifle and says "..." Witnesses, video evidence, perfect! I know it wouldn't go anywhere in court, but how about an attorney writes a letter and has it served at a press conference informing the Honorable Mr. Daley that the reporter is suing him for assault with a deadly weapon? Talk about the ultimate Brady headache. The opportunity at a frivolous lawsuit to make guns and their handlers look bad, and it is one of their favorite sons that is going to lose ;D

What a nice man.
I am so happy he brought us BHO.
This is so very positive and encouraging.
This is my brain on crack.

And people wonder why we believe that Ted Nugent is needed to deliver our message at times ::)

Hell, I'd like to start with seeing Dickie's FOID card. According to the law, he is not even allowed to handle any firearm or ammo without one.

Ug,......
What an idiot....Sure am glad BHO Chicago's political upbringing isn't as utterly stupid as Daley. Oh, wait,.....nevermind....

I'll tell you how to get rid of gun control.
Make all the Mayors and Governors give up their heavily armed security details.
Make them take their chances just like us little people ;D

A positively boorish idea. Try to be more creative next time.
They give up their security details in the hood on foot. :D

At night.
I stand corrected. Thank you for the update.....I don't know what's happened to me lately.
I would add, though, that Mayor Daley did not need to show us what happens when politicians and their henchmen are the only ones who have guns, that has already been done by Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, etc.
That's it...that's who I was thinking Daley was like....he reminds me of a white Idi Amin without the direct slaughter...though after the news show he may be thinking of becoming more like old Idi.

Or better yet, in Daley's case, this is my crack on brain........

Screw King Richard. Sad to say that the Daley clan has a vacation compound in my county in SW Michigan. It was here years back that his son severly beat a minority with a baseball bat. If I can find the story on it, I'll follow up with a link.
The rifle he threatened the reporter with had a bayonet on it. Following is the story and a link to the reporters story, it's worth clicking the link and reading the comments posted: http://www.chicagoreader.com/TheBlog/archives/2010/05/20/mayor-daley-threatens-to-shoot-the-messengernamely-me

Mayor Daley Threatens to Shoot the Messenger—Namely, Me
Posted by Mick Dumke on Thu, May 20, 2010 at 4:32 PM
Mayor Daley loves to bag on the local media, and given my recent line of inquiry into his politics and policies, I’ve never expected to be greeted with a fruit basket at City Hall.
But even I was a bit taken aback this morning when the mayor grabbed a rifle and threatened to shoot me.
The mayor was holding a press conference to discuss what the city was doing to prepare for the Supreme Court’s expected decision to overturn the city’s gun ban. The short answer: all sorts of things, but we’ll just have to wait until the court weighs in next month to find out the details. “We’re hoping for the best,” Daley said.
Guns are one of the mayor’s favorite soapbox topics—he regularly goes out of his way to point out that he despises gun manufacturers and “extremists” like the NRA. “It’s really amazing how powerful they are,” he said today, standing next to a table covered with handguns, rifles, and even a machine gun that police had seized. “They’re bigger than the oil industry, bigger than the gas industry, bigger than Google, bigger than President Obama and the rest of them."
Daley also likes to highlight what he considers to be flagrant hypocrisy on the part of the defenders of gun rights. “Now you can’t walk into the Supreme Court—you have to walk in the side way. They’re going to barricade the doors or something now. I mean, they’re barricading the doors but they’re saying everyone else should have guns. That’s the thing that bothers me in Washington. As you know in Washington all things are being barricaded, all federal buildings. But they’re saying everybody else should be able to carry guns.”
But even supporters of tough gun regulations—myself included—have to admit that it's not clear how much they reduce violence. Despite having some of the most restrictive laws in the country, Chicago is a national leader in shootings and murders, and the mayor himself noted that “we’ve seen far too many instances in the last few weeks” of firearm violence, including the shooting that left a cop dead last night.
So I asked: since guns are readily available in Chicago even with a ban in place, do you really think it’s been effective?
I’m hardly the only guy who asks the mayor things he doesn’t want to answer, and I’ve been responsible for at least one of his huffing, puffing, ranting tangents, which generally get the press corps laughing, thus enabling him to move on to the next question without giving a real answer to the one at hand.
But even by those standards, this was a masterful and surreal performance.
“Oh!” Daley said. “It’s been very effective!”
He grabbed a rifle, held it up, and looked right at me. He was chuckling but there was no smile.
“If I put this up your—ha!—your butt—ha ha!—you’ll find out how effective this is!”
For a moment the room was very, very quiet. I took a good look at the weapon. It had a long bayonet. (Was it seized during the Civil War?)
“If I put a round up your—ha ha!”
The photographers snapped away. Suddenly everybody started cracking up.
Daley went on. “This gun saved many lives—it could save your life,” he said—meaning, I think, that getting that gun off the street might have saved many lives, including mine.
And he went on some more. “We save all these guns that the police department seizes, you know how many lives we’ve saved? You don’t realize it. First of all, they’re taking these guns out of someone’s hands. They save their own life and they save someone else’s. You cannot count how many times this gun can be used. Thirty, forty times in shooting people and discharging a weapon. I think it’s very important.
“Next will be hand grenades, right? We’ll say that hand grenades are OK. I mean, how far can you go in regards to mass weapons? To me, any gun taken off saves thousands of lives in America. I really believe that, I don’t care what people tell me. You have to thank the police officers for seizing all these weapons. We lead the country in seizing weapons. This is unbelievable.”
I had to agree.

Did a quick search and found this small reference to the Daley Bat beating. Interesting that King Richard's nephew was charged with a firearms violation. Please note, that the article should read Berrien County MICHIGAN, not Indiana.

Daley`s Son Pleads Guilty To Brawl Charges
By John Kass and Peter Kendall. | April 10, 1992
Mayor Richard Daley's 16-year-old son, Patrick, pleaded guilty Friday to misdemeanor charges in connection with an unsupervised beer party and brawl at the mayor's Grand Beach, Mich., vacation home last month. During the melee, another teen's head was smashed with a baseball bat. That youth is recovering. Patrick Daley admitted to furnishing alcohol to minors and disturbing the peace. Berrien County, Ind., prosecutor Dennis Wiley announced that 14 other youths were charged with minor violations, including Patrick Daley's cousin, R.J. Vanecho, 17, who pleaded guilty to aiming a firearm without malice.
