Title: What gun to buy before the elections in November?
Post by: coltfan3000 on January 24, 2008, 05:51:04 PM
I have a question for everyone on this board.  What gun would you buy before the election in November of 2008?
What kind of new legislation will the Democrats produce? I know about the revised edition of the assault weapons ban
proposals. I am only financially able to purchase one firearm before the end of the year so the question is what would you buy and why?  handgun, rifle, or shotgun? I don't have any firearms right now. Sold entire collection three years ago to boost my down payment on a house.

So what would you buy?

Thanks

Glock 17.  Cheap to shoot, you can get parts anywhere and you can fix it yourself if the liberals shut off the pipelines to manufacturers for warranty work or gunsmiths because of "registration".

I agree with the two posters above.  If you have enough saved, pick up a used glock AND some type of inexpensive reliable rifle like an AK, or Saiga etc.

Don't you believe it. The govenor here is a socialist POS Veto'd Pre-emption , Katrina legislation, and Castle doctrine.
But the SOB signed a bill that did away with Parental notification of a Minors abortion, and signed a gay marriage bill that went into effect 1-1-08
Don't get me wrong, As long as there is agroup like "Pink Pistols.com" and they don't hit on me, I don't give a rats rectum how you get your sheets warm, HOWEVER I have a big problem with them trying to get special consideration, I'm straight but it would be UNACCEPTABLE for me to walk around with a sign that said M*%# divers for Freedom, It would probably get ME thrown in JAIL, same with  Doggystyle pride parades.
Allowing a minor to get ANY medical procedure without their Parents being aware of it is just RIDICULUS, Thats why you have to be 18 to get a tatoo
And unless I can hook up with some locals who do more than just complain it will only get worse.

What kind of gun??? Hmmm...A Glock is nice, A S&W M&p in 9mm or 45 is better...I personally went with a Rock Island Armory 1911 for less than 400 and picked up a CZ52..It's old but it shoots really well, its simple to take down and Wideners.com has surplus 7.62x25 ammo for less than $7 per 70 rounds...that makes it affordable to shoot. I have been impressed with the RI. HAs a crisp 4 1/2 pound trigger, has not misfed, shoots where I aim and was affordable. I owned several Colts and Springfields before this but they were a little pricey. My wife keeps me on a budget when it coms to guns so I try to get the most I can with what I can afford.

*Ohhhh that struck me funny..sorry * catching my breath*

I have to buy a CC gun real soon.. and haven't decided yet what I want. My sons and Marshal all seem to think they know
what I "need " to have.. but I'll check some things out and then I'll decide.

Decide how you want to carry it first, then pick a suitable gun.

I have all the EBRs (lots of FALs, HK91s, ARs, AKs), mil-surps and pistols, normal cap mags and such that I need.  I did order...and hopefully will soon receive...a .50 BMG rifle.

Other than that...the best thing to lay in is a LOT of ammo.  If the administration is somewhat friendly to gun owners, ammo will still rise in price.

If the administration is NOT friendly to gun owners, I believe that is what they will make difficult to obtain.  Banning/taxing/environmental restrictions on ammo are more politically palatable and just as effective way to create restrictions on gun ownership and shooting.

No ammo = no usefulness of guns.

My 1st reaction was to say handgun.  357 S&W Revolver.  You choose the size.

Then I thought  a Ruger 10/22. Good for small game, and don't laugh, for self defense.  I wouldn't want to get shot by one :P    If you had that, you can buy thousands of rounds for next to nothing.  So you could have a life time supply of ammo.

However if your fear is that as time goes by more and more things will be banned, and you would have your AK or AR taken away, I would say to get a 12 gage pump shotgun.  You can make it "tactical" later if you want.  It seems that in places where there are bans, shotguns are some of the last to go.  Plus on the ammo side you can find it anywhere and be able to stock up.

Thats my 2 cents  ;)

Lots of good advice on the WHAT part. But to address your real cause for alarm, I will make a suggestion on the HOW aspect. A legal, private party transaction, with handwritten bill of sale, will provide a measure of "insulation" in the worst case scenario. If you are preparing for the worst, do your best.   Mac.

I would get any  cheap SKS  buy a bunch of 7.62 X 39 and a case of 30 round magazines. I know it is pretty much a spray and pray rifle but it is light and there is a whole lot of them around for reasonable money. It also packs a decent punch. with the money you save you could get a different stock  and an inexpensive scope or red dot sight to improve accuracy a little. As for a pistol I would get a High Cap Taurus 24/7 Pro in 40 S&W. It comes with two 16 round mags and extras could be had for a decent price. Shotgun Mossberg JIC in the Marine finish with an extended magazine tube Loaded with 00 buck and Slugs. $400 will get you any one of these and some Ammo.

I have also given a lot of thought on what firearm to but ahead of the elections. But I'm finding out that it will cost more to fire that gun than to purchase it. I'm begining to feel as though the anti's wont have to go after my right to own that firearm they will just let the cost of firing it to be come an issue. I know we have to stay strong and not wavier on our rights but its sure getting old hearing the words not in stock or the price has increased for the fourth or fifth time since last year.

Marshal'ette, 2 suggestions, I tried a Taurus millenium 9mm recently and liked it alot, although being striker fired it has a longer trigger pull than I prefer, since you SEEM to shoot alot of single action that may be an issue, Also, for economy the Hungarian PA-63 in 9mm Makarov may be an option, it's a copy of the Walther PP series for under $200.
The one I bought needs a seriuos trigger job, and being small and light it kicks more than you would expect but mine groups under 2 inches at 10 yards. I saw an ad in Shotgun News J and G sales has them for $100 (WWW.jgsales.com)

I'm gonna go against the grain and suggest a Smith and Wesson 910S.  'Cuz I like the '59 series, and I like the slide-safety.  Being a southpaw, I'd add in an ambi-catch.

I don't shoot a lot of single actions actually.. I own a pair of beauty 38's but  I shoot single actions "sometimes".. and they are fun.. ( what gun isn't fun to shoot) and although I have high powered rifles ( deer and coyote hunting) and lots of 22's.. ( squirrel, rabbits ..and snakes ) and shotguns
( dove, sporting clays and trap) and a 9mm, I really haven't owned a wide variety of the "muscle guns"..
I'm listening to you all ..and I am learning.. and I think when the time comes.( in April) I may be a bit more informed as to what may work for me best.
( I liked the advice from Don.. I first have to decide how I will carry it the most) I am not particular crazy about having it in my purse... not real handy in a snap crisis.. but I'll figure it out..
Thanks to all who are chiming in.. I appreciate it..  :-*

If you have the money, I'd get a AR-15.  Here in Nebraska, there are rumors that the anti-gunners are after them, and I expect that would be a nationwide trends since they are so popular...  Marshalette, look at the Lady Smith's they are built for woman and have both revolvers and pistols...

I would get another good quality 1911, a tacticle shot gun or parts to turn mine into one,and probably something on the ar15 or fal platform. But, what I will end up with is the Richards and Mason conversion I have laid away. I might try to find a 4 inch barelled S&W 629  some where.

My plan is to review resent gun bans that have either expired or been beat back, review the items on the lists compared to what I would like to have or already have, and make my purchases accordingly.

I believe that we are already on borrowed time with the changes made at State and Federal levels in '06.  If we lose any more ground this fall the items they thought they had gotten rid of in the past, or have tried to ban recently, will be the foundation of the next sweep.

My order of purchases, based on cash available (good thing the kids are within a few months of finishing college) is #1 scary things that are on reprieve from a past ban; #2 things on a list of try to get rid of; and #3 items missed on those lists but similar.  I will start with items for guns I already have (mags, stocks, grips, bayonets (because I'm just dieing to commit a drive-by stabbing), comps, etc.).

First to the original question...A black rifle, plenty of mags and ammo.  As money permits pick up high cap mags for other guns to sell or trade when the going gets tough.  Prices/value will go up.

Marshal'ette...a small 9mm - Kahr, Para, STI and etc.  Then check around for a holster made specifically for women based on expert opinions of the carry option you choose.  Remember, any draw under pressure is a problem for most of us.

Looks like this subject has been COVERED....

But "They" want these  >:( and so you should get them first:

Semi-auto rifle with all the necessaries and AMMO
Semi-auto handgun with all the necessaries and AMMO
any .50 Cal weapon with all the necessaries and AMMO
safe to hold the above

Once you have these basic NECESSITIES you can go wild for what ever else floats your boat...

Again, though, we have to bust our butts to MAKE SURE WE DON'T LOSE NOVEMBER.

You guys might be ready to surrender to another Clinton White House, but I'm going to work and speak and vote and campaign against it.

How about the new Mini 14 in 6.8 SPC?  I'm also looking for CCW--possibly Taurus 817UL (one more round than my [wife's] Dick Special.  Worried about hot ammo in alloy frame, tho--only using standard pressure rounds in the mini-Colt right now.  Any info on heavy +P in the alloy Taurus?

What gun to buy? That's a tough question to answer. Who knows what will or won't happen or what will or won't be banned. Would some guns be outright banned and be required to be turned in etc.? It is hard to say for sure as of right now. Having said that, any gun is better than no gun. A chance is better than no chance. It also depends on budget too. Because for the price of certain guns, you could buy 2 or 3 other guns instead. I would recommend some options, such as:

1) Ar-15 / Ak-47/ SKS/ some kind of semi-auto rifle, where you could defend yourself when 2 or 3 bad guys show up.
2) a high quality semi-auto handgun with high capacity magazines aka.. Glock/SigSauer/XD/M&P etc.
3) 12 guage pump or semi-auto action shotgun..something that can hold more than 1 or 2 shells at a time.
4) a good quality .22 Long Rifle rifle.. all kinds and sizes, something that also hold more than one shot..i.e. 10 or 14 etc. ammo is cheap...

If I could only buy one. I would pick one of the four numbers above and go from there. It is just hard to know what will happen for sure. But, trying to and being prepared is the best you can do for now. What would you want to have if Katrina happened in your neighborhood and serveral individuals/looters where about to over-run your house?   :-\

Everything you can get your hands on.  If you can get one/some without a paper trail, all the better.

And don't forget the ammo.
