Title: Another new toy!!
Post by: GUNS-R-US on May 30, 2010, 11:14:29 PM
So I had be talking to RSO at the bullseye range here in Tacoma about buying a .22 for practice. We discussed the Walter P22 and the Mosquito. I had though the sig was a lot more expensive than the Walter was. The RSO said it was much closer than to the P22 in price. I walked down stairs to check out what the they had for sail. They didn't have any .22's, that was on Tuesday. On Friday I walked in to the Marksman in Puyallup just to take a peek. Wound up purchasing a Sig Mosquito $329 only $4 more than the P22 but it fit my had so much better. So now together with my M&P15-22 I can do all my training with purpose built .22's. The bummer is I was delayed again for umpteenth time on my NICS check. So I have to wait till some time this week (Friday at the latest) to bring her home. I already ordered a couple spare mags, a holster, and a mag pouch for it. ;D I'll send some porn when I get it! Promise!! ;)

Guns, I wish you well, but man, for that money, I have three words, Browning, Ruger and Colt. I hope yours works out, but I have heard lots of bad hings about the Sig. I haven't about the others and I've owned the Colt and Browning. If there's still time to change your mind, I'd give Gunbroker a quick looksee. If you're locked in, I wish the joy of it, and want a range report.

FQ, the problem with the the ones you mentioned is they are target .22's with funny charging handles more in line with the AR than any of my centerfire carry guns. I wanted a purpose built .22 with the same operating features as the rest of my guns for training purposes. Clearing malfunctions, tactical reloads, will be as close to the real thing as I can make it without the high cost of centerfire ammo.  I can't get that with the Browning, Ruger, or Colt. I was seriously considering a Ruger 22/45 but for the charging handle issue. I'm paying $45 for 1000 .22lr's and I'm paying $220 for a 1000 9mm's. That's serious price difference. I can do over 4 times the training for the cost. Since I found out the Bullseye in Tacoma does free range time for military every Tuesday not just on the 1st and the 15th. I've been going as often as I can make it! Putting around 500 .22's and about a 100 9mm's. With the Mosquito I can double that to 1000 .22 each week for the same cost and just bring out the 9mm once a month or so, just to keep my proficiency up. ;) Or I can just drop the AR round count to 450 and put 50 though the Mosquito for less than a $100 a month!  ;D

Sounds good to me! Have fun.
FQ13 who maybe should have kept that Browning (per your earlier post), but it bought the eotech for my AR, so I still don't miss it that much. If I'm lucky, the boys at Glock will wake up and realize, "Gee, there might be a market for a midsized .22". ;)

I'll say the same thing about S&W's M&P line. They got the rifle, so now where is the pistol to match???? ::)

Of all the guns I've sold over the years the one I miss the most is my BuckMark ;(

I hope yours works Guns, but I'm afraid I would not bet that way.

You're going to love it.  I bought my girl a pink mosquito this weekend.  I don't know how long its going to stay pink though.

A pink mosquito doesn't sound like a gun. It sounds like a girly mixed drink.  :)

I have been considering a 22 top end for practice.  I don't really want a dedicated 22 and a topper for a Glock and 1911 is the same price as the dedicated Sig, Beretta, and others.  Not totally averse to the dedicated one though.

Guys I was able to shoot both the Walther P22 and the Sig Mosquito last week. The P22 had a number of failure to loads while the mosquito ran fine. I am hopingfor a Glock version soon.

I've got two P22's, one the standard, short barrel and one  the longer "target" barrel. The short barrel one has performed flawlessly, around 20k rds through it and not a single failure to feed. The longer barrel started out a little particular and would only consistently feed mini-mags. Looking at it a there were a few spots along the rails and hammer that were a little rough. I cleaned those up and it's run over 1500 rds without a problem, even with economy high velocity ammo from different makers. You can't beat the P-22 or the Mosquito, whatever works better for you, to get lots of range time in or to teach new shooters.
