In my opinion, this is a bad move. The 70+ thousand folks in Charlotte, don't want the McCain moderate RINO's re-elected. There must be a back room loyalty, relationship, sweetheart type "arrangement", for this, but I disagree with it.
It's time for the career politicians to go, regardless of their 2nd Amend. stance, or party. Just like Harry Reid, the NRA gives him kudos for his state of the art range in NV, BUT he still has to get out of Congress.
Find and endorse the candidates that won't walk the fence, hold fast to principles, NOT POLLS, and maintain a support for the 2nd Amend.
McCain needs to be given his due respect, and be wished well back home in AZ.

The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund announces an endorsement of John McCain. That can't help J.D. Hayworth's insurgent campaign.
From the release:
The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing U.S. Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the August 24 Republican primary.
“John McCain has steadfastly voted against every gun and ammunition ban in Congress,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. "This along with his commitment to preserving our hunting heritage has earned him the NRA-PVF’s endorsement.”
Sen. McCain voted to end reckless lawsuits against gun manufacturers and to
prohibit gun confiscation from law-abiding Americans during states of emergency. He is leading the fight to restore self-defense rights in Washington, D.C. through his introduction of the Second Amendment Enforcement Act.
McCain signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the individual right to keep and bear arms in the historic Heller case. He also signed the congressional amicus brief stating that the Second Amendment applies to all Americans, no matter where they live, in the McDonald case currently before the Court.
Sen. McCain’s consistent opposition to the failed Clinton semi-auto ban, dating back to the original votes in 1993, has made him a friend to gun owners across the country. He continues to be a strong voice in fighting ongoing efforts by the United Nations to dismantle the Second Amendment.
Cox continued, “We ask all Arizona gun-owners, hunters and NRA members to vote for John McCain in the U.S. Senate republican primary on August 24th.”

All true and good political decisions, but how many other decisions, did he flip-flop on, gee,.... I'll pick ONE: Immigration!
His opponent is just as staunchly behind the 2nd Amend., and it's still time to hit the reset button.

Fu%k that RINO POS.
E Mail just sent :
I am disgusted that you would spit on your membership by supporting that RINO loser McCain who threw the election to this communist POS Obummer, after dumping on his own running mate.
Your membership is as high as it has ever been, if you don't start listening to your members that will change, I for one am reconsidering my reasons for joining.

Fu%k that RINO POS.
Thank you Tom, that pretty much is what I was thinking. Even my comrades and NRA friends are like: WTF?
I'll be bringing it up at the June 10th ILA Dinner. Literally in those terms.

Well said. With good reason.

There is another organization out there besides the NRA (yes, I am an NRA member) . It's the NAGR or National Association for Gun Rights. I don't know a lot about the org, but you can read more about it at: www.nationalgunrights.org
The NRA has long been the championin organization for 2A issues, but they need to be a better reflection of their membership and recognize that RINOs will not be tolerated.
The NRA will shortly get a protesting email from me, too.
McCain is the wrong answer!
-
Unfortunately the NRA is involved in just, so many, other aspects of shooting ,beyond just lobbying, that they remain a worthwhile organization, however they need to "get" the message that while McCain is indeed great on guns and Veterans issues, he lacks the support of the general membership.
HE STINK"S ON EVERYTHING ELSE AND IS A RINO LOSER !

I totally agree with the above posts, I too am sending them an email along with an email to all my friends that are members to let them know about this.

Dear Mr. Bogan,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding NRA-PVF’s endorsement of U.S. Senator John McCain in Arizona’s August 24 Republican primary.
The NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) has endorsed Senator McCain based on his long record of support for the Second Amendment.
During his time in the U.S. House, McCain voted for the Firearms Owners Protection Act, one of our most important pro-gun legislative victories.
On three occasions, McCain voted against amendments sponsored by Sen. Ted Kennedy that would have banned most of the hunting ammunition in common use today.
McCain’s consistent opposition to the failed Clinton semi-auto ban, dating back to the original votes in 1993, has made him a friend to gun owners across the country. He has voted seven times against the discredited ban, including against two early versions of the ban that failed to pass. He opposed the amendment to include this ban in the 1993 crime bill and voted against its renewal in 2004.
Sen. McCain voted to end reckless lawsuits against gun manufacturers by strongly supporting the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act" and working hand-in-hand with NRA staff to win its passage. He voted against five separate amendments that were designed to gut the legislation.
He has worked closely with NRA in support of bills to reform the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE), in particular S. 941—the "Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Reform and Firearms Modernization Act."
He also voted to prohibit gun confiscation from law-abiding Americans during states of emergency. As the primary sponsor of S. 3265, the "Second Amendment Enforcement Act," he is leading the fight to restore self-defense rights in Washington, D.C.
He has consistently opposed efforts to impose "waiting periods" on gun purchases, voting nine times to stop such proposals.
Sen. McCain has supported gun owners’ rights in the courts, signing the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of our individual right to keep and bear arms in the historic Heller case. He also signed the congressional amicus brief stating that the Second Amendment applies to all Americans, no matter where they live, in the McDonald case.
In addition, he voted to allow the transport of firearms on Amtrak; to recognize the Right-to-Carry in our National Parks; and for the Thune-Vitter Amendment to extend Right-to-Carry reciprocity for all permit holders to legally carry in any state that grants carry permits.
Finally, he also continues to be a strong voice in fighting ongoing efforts by the United Nations to dismantle the Second Amendment.
NRA-PVF has an incumbent-friendly policy that requires our support for pro-gun incumbents seeking reelection. It is important that we stand with our friends who stand with us in Congress or the state legislatures. Of course, should a pro-gun challenger win his election and support the Second Amendment once in office, then he will be the beneficiary of this policy when seeking re-election.
Thank you again for your inquiry.
Sincerely,
Michael Land

The highlighted paragraph is the important one. It applies to Reid as well. You dance with who brung you. You don't trade them in on a flashier model and then expect loyalty. The NRA is doing the right thing. They aren't trying to elect a conservative. Its not their job. Theirs is to keep a pro-gun incumbent in office. Anything else is someone else's problem. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Uh, no. Sure it's great to keep "pro-gun" guys in but when Reid endorses a health care bill that gives the govt the ability to limit your access to health care based on your access to ( (put your favorite upcoming restriction here) guns in your house, CHL license, lead bullets??????????).
Great, Reid allows me to have all the guns, bullets, powder, etc., that I want only I can't afford them due to his passing of govt spending, lack of impact on the environment from lead, whatever...............but he didn't vote against guns, explicitly. To me, that's the short sighted argument with one issue voters and the NRA endorsements.
-
Agree it is short sighted of "one issue voters". Average voter only has a memory span of about 6 months anyway.
But the NRA has to keep the deals they made to get the votes.
We bought the azzhole now we have to pay for him .

One question.
What part of the words "National RIFLE Association" refers to healthcare? (or abortion, or the environment or foriegn policy etc.)?
The NRA has one job and one job only. Elect pro-2A candidates. The rest of it is not their bussiness and someone else's problem.

Good. Keep the blinders on FQ13. I explained myself in the previous post why more than just supporting the 2nd Amendment is important. It's just plain stupid to ignore all the extraneous (to you) items. As I said, he might support guns directly but if he supports legislation that allocations authority to other govt entities which can subvert your rights, then he's no friend.

Look
I'm not saying YOU should support him. That's your call. I'm saying that as an institution the NRA should. They take money from Repuplicans, Democrats, Independents and Libertarians. What they promise us in return is that they will give us a pro-gun candidate. Period. You think you couldn't have gone to Charlotte and gotten into a heated debate over abortion, the drug war, education or Iraq? The only issue where you would have gotten an amen chorus was on pro-2A legislation. That's what the NRA should do. The rest of it? Do it on your own time and through another group. I don't vote for every NRA endorsed candidate either because some things are more pressing. Still, I don't want them to rate anyone on anything other than the one single issue we pay them to defend.

Watch how fast the NRA "changes" support if McCain loses.....
Than they'll be the "Let's Get Behind Hayworth Campaign",..... I'm all for supporting pro 2nd Amend. candidates, but the puppeteer is WE the members.... NOT LaPierre, et, al....
and the majority of "Members" would respectfully prefer if the RINO McCain moved on.

I guess it makes sense to support McCain because if he wins without it he will vote in favor of more gun control. He has no loyalty except to his own ambition and will sell us out if it is to his benefit, he has always been a RINO and the NRA should stand on principal and support his opponent in the primary. I am not a single issue voter but have found those who support my second amendment rights support most of my other beliefs.

I tend to be a one issue voter and that issue is the 2A.
I would generally vote for the strongest supporter of the 2A that is available. if two are close, I'll compare other issues.
I would skip a vote if only anti 2A candidates were available.
My reasons for this are that if we strictly maintain the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, we maintain the ultimate ability to correct the abuses of other issues. Without that ability, Bend Over And Get Used To It is all the option we have.
The NRA, being a single issue organization, give me the information about the candidates 2A support.
