I currently have an old Mak-90, which I have had for almost 15 years now. It has been a good gun, been thru some changes in stocks, etc., but is still pretty much the old Mak-90. But.......,I am looking at getting an AR to "Lego" with, but really like the Cetme/Fal/Hk 308s too. I do deer hunt with the AK once in awhile, as its legal with a 5 rnd mag, and would like to be able to do some varming hunting with an AR. But then the .223 is not deer legal. The 308 is deer legal, but I have never fired one of the Cetme/Fal/HK type rifles? Are they pretty accurate?
Which should I get? AR or .308?
Which do you see being harder to get in the next political agenda? (in other words, which should I get now?)
I can get them at cost from my dealer for the most part, so that isnt too big of a deal.
Arggh, so many guns, so little time and so little money! (hmmm, maybe an m1 garand or m1a1.....)

Why not get a 308 in the AR format that way you get the best of both worlds. You will still be able to use it for Varmint hunting and Deer if you can find a 5 round mag. Plus with the current shortages of 223 you won't have any ammo supply problems. My personal choice would be the DPMS 308 LR model. ;D

Also the Armalite AR 10

Ya know, thats a great idea! Maybe I will do that! Thanks. DM

My vote is for a AR15 type semi auto rifle. There's a lot of mfg. to choose from and you can customize it with endless accessories or configurations. Just my opinion.

Sadly, there is no good answer to your predicament. Your only choice is to get one of each.
Most of the "Lego" parts for the AR are made for the 5.56 size AR, so you certainly need one of those. The best thing to do is not let 15 years go by without adding to the collection. Aim for 15 weeks and you'll be much happier.

Oh no, there isnt a 15 year gap, just a 15 year gap in black guns. I have over 60 guns now, but most are Cowboy Action style or milsurp bolt actions. ;D ;D I tend to get about 4 a year now, so we are doing pretty good. DM

Dalton, you buy 4 guns a year ? I take it your state does not have a one gun per month law :)
-
Lets see in 2007 we got 2 opentops, an AWA lightning, a H&A pocket pistol, a 16ga 97, a TTN sxs, 2 Mosin Nagants, a few M1888 Commission rifles (antique so dont count), and probably a couple I am forgetting at the moment. I am lucky in the fact my wife believes if its a good deal to jump on it. Also helps that we both enjoy our gun hobby. She just doesnt care for the AR platform that much growing up as a military kid.
And I live in Nebraska, so we dont have those silly laws like that.

PS, guess that adds up to more than 4. Oh darn. lol

someone on here has the signature "one gun a month is not a limit, it's a goal" I agree with that :)

In my signature in a few other forums, I have "Guns, collect the whole set"
Most of mine are bolt action milsurps, but that is closely followed by revolvers. Mainly cap and ball, but quite a few of the others as well. If its cheap enough I usually try to get it. I build holsters, so try to get them to make patterns off of. DM
