I've been looking all over the www but can't find anything.Guys,id appreciate some info of the large brain trust here. ???

Call Colt at 1-800-962-COLT. They'll probably only give you the year. The online db doesn't list production dates for the 80 series.

Not there, TAB. Nothing on the 80 series as per my post above.

Some time after 1991?? Sorry had to say that ::) Actually I've got a book on Colts. I'll see if the M1991a1 is in there.

DaverZ, you call it a Series 80 1991A1.
How is it marked on the right and left flats of the slide? That info might help in nailing down the date. Pics would be good too! :D
For example:
It has been my understanding that the "MK IV Series 80" moniker was only used on the left side of the slide from 1983 through 1991 (even though all the guns made after 1983 are still mechanically Ser. 80's on the inside, whether marked or not).
Then in 1991 they started using the "1991A1" in big bold lettering (like mine) on the left side. Then, years later on they went back to putting "Series 80" markings on there, but this time on the right side in smaller lettering.

I know this isn't date-specific, but thought it might help to narrow down the search range.
