Title: they tried to search my wife at the movies.
Post by: sksmedic on June 29, 2010, 04:02:28 PM
Very pissed off right now.  My wife and I just went to the movies and were told that her purse would have to be searched for any outside food or drinks. This is a problem.  My wife and I both carry concealed religiously. Today she happens to have a Kimber ultra carry and spare mags in her purse. We declined the search as we did not wish to share her firearm with the entire line. We walked to the parking lot. We were out the cost of our tickets as there are no refunds. We decided to put the theater in a very awkward position to see what might happen. There is a sign posted at the door stating that for the safety of the staff and public carmike cinemas reserves the right to search any backpack and purse. There are no signs posted about weapons. As we walked up there was a manager tearing tickets now. We waited until there was no one in line and approached. We looked her right in the eye, she took our tickets and she didn't ask to search.  She then searched everyone after us.

I'm not getting the need for the search? Are they afraid someone will bring in their own soda and popcorn? This kind of thing is getting out of control. I'm not much into all of these "boycotts", but there comes a time when enough is enough. I've never been in a situation like that, but I doubt I would act favorably.  Bill T.

The problem the theaters have, and I'm NOT taking their side, is that they don't really make any money on the movie itself. The profit comes from the concessions. The only reimburse the studios for the paid admissions to the movie. Our local theater gives away free movies quite often. They hope to make it up on the concessions. Which they do in spades when my family goes to the theater!

It cracks me up at Universal in Orlando.  They often search bags and purses for (bombs i guess?).  And I always have my Kel-Tek in my pocket or IWB and never have a problem.  ;D

Next time, have your wife tell them, "I can assure you that I'd never put soda in my purse, it might spill and cause my handgun to rust."
