Today at the ATK Industry Day, SSD was privileged enough to witness a demonstration of Federal Premium LEs new Tactical HST round in .45 Auto. When fired into ballistic gel, which is designed to simulate human flesh, the round penetrated a full 12 inches (the photo was taken off angle), expanding to a max diameter of .96 inches at its resting point. The round is a two piece projectile with a copper jacket that folds completely out of the way during penetration, while the rounds petals open to full expansion. The ammo is available in 9mm, .40, .45, and .357 SIG, however the SIG round is too fast, and as a result doesnt fully open during penetration. More information can be found at www.le.atk.com.

*Premium, LE, and Tactical all in one name.... Yeah, I guess that about covers every marking ploy known in the industry

Great ammo. It is our standard issue (230gr +P).
Buttkicking round to say the least.

I also am a big fan for Federal HST's, for my .45. Very, very confident when the mag is full of them. Never an issue.
If they can get the price DOWN just a wee bit, I'd be even happier. :-\

I'm a bit confused. I've had the 45 HST LE Tactical for over a year. Why are they being called 'new'? Are these an improved version?
-
It says they introduced a new .45 round. Maybe only one .45 caliber configuration is new?
-
Darn nice expansion!

New? This stuff has been around for a few yrs now. The 230 +P did 985 fps from my 1911 and was way to studly for me! YMMV.

They are talking about a Standard .45 ACP 230g loading No +P for this one. 890 fps at the muzzle from their 5" barrel. Less Studly at the gun end, but doesn't seem to lose much at the bad guy end.

This looks very nice. I haven't met an SD round I'm loyal to yet. I bounce around from Golden Sabre, to Hydra Shock to Hornady depending on price and availability. They all do fine in the G-26, but I'm not crazy about any of them. Sad to say, I'm more accurate with Win White box FMJ. I'm willing to give these a try. What are they asking for a box of these?

FQ, have you tried Cor-Bon ammo in your Glock?
It is the most accurate ammo out of my G-27, and it's good quality SD ammo to boot. Not bashing any of the other ammo out there, it is all good, for the most part.

Hard to find - they are trying to limit it to LE. No law against having it as a civvy. Mine were 50 rounds for about $28.
