I'm flying from Fl. to Mt. One of my connecting flights puts me in the Detroit airport for three blissful hours. I halfway expect it to be a cross between "Escape From NY" and" Dawn of the Dead". Probably not that bad, but it is a sad day when someone views a stop over in what used to be one of the jewels of our industrial might as an occasion to fret about being unarmed. :-\ Couldn't I just wait in Cleaveland or something? ;)

Just remember.....necessity is the mother of invention.... ;)
Stay safe & keep your head on a swivel.....

You prefer Cleveland over Detroit? ? ?
Detroit's not that bad, I have had flights divert through there. Stay in the airport tho . . . . ;)
-
I haven't been to the Motor City in twenty years or better. As Path said, stay indoors, find a pub and enjoy a cold one.
I have been to Cleveland in the past year and trust Path again, it's not much better.
If it's Detroit Metro, it's way outside the city in Romulus, MI. The other one, Young, is nearer to downtown.

I got to both jewels of the North for work. ;D
Detroit has the nicer airport. Unless there is a zombie outbreak your fine.

FQ13, What part of Montana are you flying in to. As a fellow forum member, I would be happy to help you out. Two or three days before you leave, Just Fed-ex your guns to me and I will hold them in safe keeping for you. Also because I'm such a nice guy I will take them to the range ( 1/4mi from my house) and make sure that they are in good working condition for your arrival. Glad I can help.
Monty
P.S. Don't forget to send ammo also. ::) ;D

Sorry, under those circumstances I would have to step in and exercise my responsibilities as a more qualified, senior member of the forum! ;)

Didn't you spend the week end getting razzed about a "senior member" ? ;D

Hey FQ, the Detroit airport has a Fox Sports Bar inside the terminal, PAST security, if you have any type of layover, they make the best Bloody Mary's.
Love the approach to Detroit, you fly over all the ghetto row houses, and neighborhoods that look right out of an apocolyptic zombie movie.

Oh, just go armed ;D

For anyone who may be considering Michigan for a vacation, it IS well worth the effort and they recognize CC licenses for resident permits from all 50 states.
World class fishing, some of the best golf courses in the north, canoeing, boating, sailing, hunting, sightseeing and the list goes on and on.
My home state could dearly use the travel dollars and I assure you, the people are worth getting to know.
Just a thought....
FQ...enjoy your vacation.

As a former Detroiter I will say there's nothing to fear in the city that a fully loaded Street Sweeper and Ma Deuce couldn't take care of!

I've spent a lot of time in Detroit, both business and pleasure. My best friend lives half way between downtown Detroit and Ann Arbor. I have to say even though I was almost always either armed (my FL permit is good in MI) or with a large group of guys I felt safer walking in downtown Detroit than I do in downtown Orlando. Much bigger police presence and the cops there pay more attention to what is happening and a much smaller visible homeless and general scumbag presence. MI is a great place to visit, to cold to live there and no jobs but that just makes your tourism money go further.
