Title: Run a Personal 26.2 with Me blog
Post by: Bidah on July 14, 2010, 06:02:48 PM
Shameful plug for my wife's blog..

My wife finally made the decision to get motivated and work toward a goal of running a distance of 26.2 miles (marathon).  She also made the decision to start a blog of her effort as an overweight mother of 2 boys (ain't they cute).  Other than during military service she has never ran, and never really liked it.  If some of you out there would like to join her on the journey, or know someone who might need a bit of a push and support, I would appreciate it if you would pass the site along.  I will be joining her in this quest, so I am just not there for the moral support.  I know deep down my wife would like to have some other that would train and then do it with her.  When she started before the blog, it was hard for her to go 2 miles walking, especially on a consistent basis.  She can now walk 5 miles at an 18 minute mile, and do that several days a week.  Time to start running. :)

Thanks.

Bidah, best of luck to both of you, I ran 16 miles every week on one run for the duration of track practice, 26 miles is a Bear, best of luck again, it is a hard row to hoe.

Good luck on your Quest together. I used to run with a well known NY Club for several years. The longest being a 20 miler in 2:09 it convinced me to never run a marathon.  Just not for  me.To give you some advice it will take some time to build up to a marathon. I was running 80 miles a week when I was at my peak. The average marathon runner logs 90 plus miles a week though it is possible to run one on less it will take a strong will to complete and a good training plan. There is a lot of information out there to assist the both of you. Be patient and diligent and when you have a set back in your training adjust it accordingly. Look for a local running club they are not just for elite runners  and most have coaching available for your benefit though at an additional cost to membership but well worth it.

She is training for next year, actually later next year.  So it is very non aggressive as that goes.  I am pushing a bit harder doing trail running, but then I have a lot more years at it then she does.  Even with that I have never run farther than 6 miles while doing the mini triathlons.  I still prefer a bicycle.. :)

Good luck to you guys Bidah.
I walk to work every day, 1 1/2 mile in 25 -35 minutes (depends on weather , cold I'm trying to stay warm, I go faster  ;D  )
I used to run 6 miles twice a week, but only because the Marine Corps could have put me in jail for refusing.  ;D

Good luck to you both!  Being overweight myself I have never been much of a runner myself but I don't mind riding a bicycle but I much prefer to watch or drive a car!  LOL
