This will be the oddest question I will ever post on this forum. I have been searching the internet and have really run out of road trying to find any kind of pet dealer that has Chipmunks. Long story, I have been trying to find a pair of chipmunks for the past year. I know it's a little wierd to make a rodent a pet but it's something I've always wanted to do. I don't have the luxury of a larger pet in the apartment I'm in but Chipmunks are on the approved list... Who wrote this list I don't know. Does anybody have any ideas about this? Or maybe would be interested in catching a few (sarcasm in that part) haha. I'm in Ohio and I can't find any kind of listing for "exotic" pet dealers that deal in rodentia.

Some people have guinea pigs some have hamsters. When I was living in Colorado a neighbor of ours raised chipmunks. It's something he started doing because of the "Chipmunk mania" in the 80s with the cartoon. I took care of them when he went on vacation once and they were really interesting. They were typically quiet and very playful especially with younger kids. I just figured it would be cool to have something different for a pet. I can't have a dog cat or bird in these apartments but reptiles and rodents seem to be acceptable. Again I say, how screwed up is this property management company?

How 'bout them weasel things, what are they?
Ferrets?
Beastmaster had a couple in his "man bag".....remember? I recall he taught them to unhook Tanya Roberts knickers or something...

Chipmunks???
In my opinion, Chipmunks are best when you brine them for at least 4 hours in a mix of kosher salt and brown sugar and a few bay leaves before sautéing in butter. Then finish them up by braising them in a mix of white wine, shallots, and some wild mushrooms until the meat comes away easily from the bones. Plan on at least two for each adult as they are a lot smaller than they look when skinned and gutted. Serve alongside wild/pecan rice and hericot vert (them's green beans for you uncultured critter-killers) splashed with melted butter and finely chopped tarragon. You can serve with a light-bodied red or a fuller-bodied white.
I hope this helps.
Offered by Crusader, who politely suggests you read the above while doing your best Julia Child's type voice ;D

They are a hell of a trophy for an airgun shooter.... hell, just being able to spot one from across the yard is a great accomplishment.

I had a pet squirrel when I was a Kid. They are great pets, but when they get rowdy they have a tendacy to be like grabbing the wrong end of a chain saw.

$125 for a baby chipmunk? Might be time to start a new business if you happen to like the critters. They do look cute.
Take some cute pictures of them with the family and kids. And with the family cat or dog, if the cat and dog don't look at them as lunch. Have copies made and get them to the local pet stores. Maybe get a news short on the local TV station as the regions newest 'Munk Wrangler'. Posters on cars in mall shopping centers.
Then just sit back and corner the market :D
