President Obama will make history as the first sitting president on a daytime talk show when he visits with the ladies of "The View." But he'll be missing out on another historic occasion -- the Boy Scouts' Jamboree marking the group's 100th anniversary, right in the president's backyard.
The Jamboree kicked off this week at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, where organizers had invited the president to speak to the 45,000 scouts in attendance. All three of Obama's predecessors have made it to one Jamboree while in office.
But the president will instead be traveling Wednesday to New York for a taping of the ABC show, as well as Democratic fundraisers and a stop in New Jersey. The talk show appearance comes as campaign season moves into full swing, but also amid efforts to cap the Gulf oil spill for good, contain the damage from an unprecedented leak of Afghanistan war documents and battle Arizona over its immigration law -- set to go into effect Thursday. Obama also has an out-of-town event planned for Friday in Detroit.
But while the Jamboree lasts until next Tuesday, the president is sending his regards via a videotaped message.

Off topic, but I want to know why that miserable SOB AP Hill got a fort named after him ! >:(
The only reason he got his own Corps was because he could not get along with Jackson, (Who courtmartialed him ) or Longstreet, (who IIRC placed him under arrest on another occasion )
By all accounts Daniel Harvey Hill (Jackson's BIL ) was a real nice guy, and arguably a better general, He didn't get a Fort.
Longstreet himself, the man was a Genius of trench warfare, 65 years ahead of his time, He didn't get a Fort.
How about Fort" PITA Politicking SOB". >:(
Rant off and back to your vaguely normal thread ;D

Actually it used to be CAMP AP Hill until sometime in the 70's (Army changed all 'camps' to 'forts'). I used to spend a lot of time there when I was stationed at Fort Belvoir.

He was still a miserable p#%*k . ;D

Tom, you're going to have another grabber if you keep repressing yourself, holding it in. Let it go, man!!!
;D

Think about it for a minute .
Would YOU rather spend a weekend with kids learning to be self reliant Americans, or , a couple hours swilling coffee and scrounging for cash with Babs and Whoopi ?
Of course he blew off the BSA, DUH !

Going off topic again, but I have a question!!!!
Army bases are called forts, and Marine bases are called camps. Correct? I assume this was done for distinction. So why is it that in Wyoming CAMP Gurnsey is an army base? ::)

This clown does nothing but prove his total shallowness each and every day of the week. His "administration" lacks the same substance he does. Those bimbos will slobber all over him, and softball him with namby pamby "questions" and undeserved praise for 15 minutes. Then the audience will applaud for the same amount of time. The "View" is nothing but a never never land for mindless, socialist housewives who's light bulbs have been burned out for years. Bill T.

Looks like Rosie O'Donnel is on our side on this one:

Are you sure it is still actually a camp? US Army bases were all supposed to be called forts starting in late 70's.

Camp Gurnsey is a National Guard facility, those are designated as "Camp's" as well, Like Camp Edwards on Cape Cod.

I will either agree with Obummer or Rosie O'Donut ?
I think my head is going to explode.
-
BHo probably figured he need less SS guarding him on the View...considered himself on safe ground.....unlike a military base with honest, hard working, patriotic, THINKING Americans who may ask him a difficult question.
Our welding Supv. has a son at the Jamboree and his comment echoed mine when I told him the president chose Whoopi and Babwa over the BSA...
"The dick!"...

Or Camp Perry in Ohio, but what about Fort Indiantown Gap in PA?

Fixed the punctuation for ya' too, big guy. ;D

Fort Indiantown Gap is a deactivated Army base, they don't change the name, like Fort Devens in Ma.
Funny thing is , except for AP Hill, I've been to every on of the Facilities mentioned. ;D

Camp Indiantown Gap doesn't sound the same, anyway.
I was there in the early '80s after the boat people trashed the place.

Late 80's when my Battery won the Artillery shoot off ;D

I'm more bummed that I and my sons are missing it. If only they were a little older.
