Ruger announced a new .380 pocket pistol today. Looks pretty good to me. I would rather it be 9mm, but at least it is a big departure from usual Ruger products.

It seems that Ruger is offering quite a few new products and modifications to existing products since Old Bill passed away. I bet the engineers and designers had their plans hidden away until he did.
-
Yeah, I am glad that Ruger is making changes from the traditional "same old metal revolver thing." I think it will help them grow and be successful in the future. That new little LCP .380 looks sweet. It also seems to be a great carry size. The Ruger Charger, SR9, and the LCP.... Ruger is finally changing for the good in my opinion.
-
Now they need pump and semi auto shotguns and they will cover the entire industry
-
Since the gun is basically a Kel Tec Ruger did one of two things: 1) contracted with Kel Tec to modify the P3AT and manufacture it for Ruger, or 2) Ruger ripped off the Kel Tec design.
Compare the exploded parts drawings of the two guns. Ruger did nothing original on this one.
ETA: Just listened to the MB interview with Sanetti. Sanetti states "started with a clean sheet of paper". What a load of crap. I realize Ruger is a sponser of Downrange but I am surprised MB let that one go on air. The LCP is either made for Ruger by Kel Tec or it is a blatant rip off of the Kel Tec. There sure wasn't any "clean paper" used for this one!
-
I suppose they are trying to get into the market like Kel-Tec , but I have no use for a .380. Its not much smaller than a millinium pro and you can get that in a .45 and spend less. Think Ill pass. ???

Amen brother.

I'll jump in here as well. I have both the Millenium pro and the Keltec P3at. If you could pocket carry a Pt111mp I would be doing it. But the little keltec weighs about 1/3 of the Milpro, is much smaller and can go where no other gun can go. It even carries better than a 5 shot snub, and I have one of those also. It also shoots a lot better than you might think. It recoils less than a lightweight snub also. The P3at and now it's Rugtec brother, the LCP3at fill a niche that can only grow in size as people realize more and more they need an everyday carry gun they can realistically CCW. I carry a full size/compact whenever I can, but I find more and more I can't. Hence the pocket pistol.

I am a longtime Ruger fan having gotten a Mark I as my first handgun back around 1970, but when I was looking for a good CCW I couldn't find anything in their line that works well for me. On my California CC permit I am limited to 3 weapons and have 2 Rugers (9mm and .357) and 1 Walther (.380) on it but find myself carrying my PPK/s most of the time. I think this new Ruger .380 will be perfect for my needs. I hope it gets approved for sale in CA soon.....................WAITING, WAITING, WAITING!!!!!!

YOU SHOULD LIVE IN ARKANSAS IF CARRYING CC IS IMPORTANT YOU CAN CARRY A CANNON IF YOU WANT
-
My concern would be effectiveness. Dont give me that shot placement BS, when you have to use that little .380 youll be lucky to hit COM . I would use FMJ, no problem with over penetration, or those expanding FMJ. I would not stake my life on a .380. My PT-140 fits in my back pocket , or any pocket for that matter, is easily carried in any position (I carry appendix).I would rather carry a big bore derringer. Just my .02

What is your opinion of that Millennium - not so much for CC compared to others, but as a machine. Are you happy with it's fit and operation?

A friend of mine has a millenium, nice shooting gun, but REALLY long trigger pull for someone used to a 1911

I just go these in for my Kel Tec P3AT. Haven't shot any yet. I expect it may hurt...a little...
Buffalo Bore 380 Auto +P 100gr. Hard-Cast FN @ 1125 fps 280 ft. lbs
"This 380 Auto+P ammo will better all American made 380 Auto ammo by 150 fps to 200 fps in all bullet weights we make. This is a serious improvement in this typically anemic cartridge. This 380 auto+P ammo is more powerful than the typical 38SPL ammo made by most American ammo makers and you’ll get 7 shots of it in a small/flat/light weight 380 versus 5 shots out of a bulkier 38 SPL J frame revolver. Additionally, with the 380 you’ll get much faster reloads and the little magazines are flatter than a speed-loader used for a J frame."
BDA-3.75 inch barrel--- 1160 fps
Walther PPK-3.5 inch barrel-----1149 fps
Colt Mustang Pocket Lite-2.75 inch barrel---1072 fps
Keltec---1061 fps

DW,
let me know how it feels. I had my P3AT at the range last night and put about 100 rounds through it (regular Winchester ball).

I originally bought it for my wife. The slide racks very easily and it has a very nice trigger pull. It is the "softest" shooter I have. Everyone who has shot it, loves it. It ended up being too big for her purse, and now she carries a 38 snub. When I can I carry it as my main CCW. When I can't, the Keltec.
Mechanically, I have over 1000 rnds thru it without one failure of any kind. Period. Nice gun at a nice price. I highly recommend it ;)

In spite of what some may say - I've found a .380 with hollow points to drop just about anything that comes at me. And as far as my life being reliant on it - well it is every day. Of course grouping and more than one hit make a difference - but at 12 yards a Cor-Bon 380 ACP, 90 grain bullet makes a pretty darn big impact.
Rugers are my favorite, and the ammunition you use makes a huge difference - regardless of the weapon.

What has been coming at you?
-
One shot took down almost 300 pounds of angry attacker. That left me with several for backup should resistance have been an issue.
-
Zeitgeist72, I would count you lucky, there have been men go down just thinking they were shot, and then there have been men keep fighting after being shot with rifle rounds. Hopefullty you have had your last encounter and will not have to trust the .380 to protect you again.
-
I cannot wait to get my hands on one of those pistols
-
I will still rely on the .380 as my cc piece. It's funny - it seems that half of the guys go one way on this topic and the rest another - (at least in my group) Unfortunately it wont be my last encounter, and I will feel comfortable with it as my cc, typically in my situation engaging something more hostile requires planning and foresight, and you bring what you need to do the job. Its the old saying "don't bring a knife to a gunfight" and its extremely true. I know of several situations where a couple of guys with 45s ran across full auto machine guns - and they barely got out of there with their skins, while at the same time a buddy of mine was dropped with a compound bow (of all things) while carrying his standard 38. You just never know. Its become an extremely strange world.
