Title: my new job
Post by: 2HOW on July 27, 2010, 08:29:23 PM
After some time of being unemployed I took it upon myself to get my state armed protective officer license. Got picked up by G4S /securecore/Wackenhut. Very happy with them, Bank duty , along with a supermarket . Good pay , good hours, some OT , and great training . Excellent benefits,  Largest company in the world. 2 thumbs up.  ;D

Sure do, as well as contracting with various parts of the Gov. and Fortune 500 companies, they also hire out to Malls, stores, etc.

Congrats on a good gig! I had looked into security in my area, but the pay was ridiculously low. It's good to hear you are happy with your situation.

I seem to remember Wackenhut at several nuclear power stations over the years I worked in the industry.  I don't remember them at Oak Ridge National Laboratory but that doesn't mean they weren't there.

Good for you 2HOW...good luck, stay safe..

They seem to offer any level of security from the retiree to sleep in the booth till the gate needs to be open, up to Diplomatic and Corporate security in a hostile environment.
Cool for you.

This was surprising to me, each contract or client picks the firearm you will carry. For the bank its a .38 revolver, for the pharmaceutical plant its a .40 S&W. It all depends on what "their" security people deem necessary.

Do you tell the wife, "Oh drat, I'm being transferred. I'll have to buy another darn pistol   >:(  "

I wish, no I am issued each firearm . Just got my Baton today and certification class next sat. Never fooled much with a collapsible baton 21" dam thing is heavy and sturdy, I wouldn't want to get hit with one.  ;D

Hopefully they also issue you a stack of ammo to get used to the firearm. Wouldn't want your aim to be off.
