Title: Discovery Channel "The Colony"
Post by: JC5123 on August 04, 2010, 05:48:30 PM
Anyone else watching this? I think that it's not quite as realistic as it could be, but it definitely makes you think. I watched last night, and caught myself going back to all the lessons learned in TBD:S. Thank you guys for making us more aware, and better prepared than most.

Funny how an AR and/or AK and/or 1911, etc,... would be a hell of an equalizer against thugs, rather than pepper spray....

Fortification is lacking, WEAPONS are lacking, their in a Katrina ravaged part of La,......so I guess the guns were confiscated.... :-\

Either way, some tips, some yelling at the TV, some OMFG moments, , but still where's the GUNS!!!!!!

I'd have some.... ;)

Having watched it last season, I kinda knew what to expect. It certainly does open eyeballs on certain scenarios, and I agree that it needs a few equalizers! At least TopShot has GUNS, and that surprises me being it's on Discovery! I think this show is more about finding food, water, and power than about defense.

Sorry, I just think this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. They all know that no one can really hurt them and they won't get killed, won't starve... hell, if they get a hangnail the producers will rush them out to the hospital so they don't sue. Can't take it serious...just like an MTV show.

+1  They NEVER show us NORMAL people.

Like horror flicks.

"OMG there is a guy with a (fill in the blank) and he is gonna kill us!"  Redneck draws, fires....end of flick.

Actually, one thing that surprised me was that one of the colonists this season, JIM ARMISTEAD, seems to be a survivalist.

Lawyers don't want guns on a set full of weirdos. It would boost ratings, but have serious liability issues. ;D One serious issue this discussion raises is this. The guns are an asset, but also a liability. Having them is an obvious plus. But everyone who doesn't will want yours. Lots of folks would be willing to kill you for that Glock if they felt they needed it to survive. They'd probably use deception. Knowing that can lead to paranoia which at best case alienates potential allies and worst convinces them you're a potential threat. It gets complicated quick. Its something to think about in terms of how to carry post SHTF.

Those are 2 of ( not The , sorry  ) dumbest statements I have ever heard.
Where do you think War movies, westerns, and Cop shows all come from ? They don't seem to have any problem having "guns" (modified for blanks by the way) around convicted Felons like Mark Wahlberg, seems like committing a federal crime would seem like a much greater risk.
If you obey the first 2 basic rules of self defense no one is taking any thing from you, BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS.
Have the mindset to actually USE your defenses, instead of that sissy "Life is so precious" crap.

BANG, BANG, BANG
"On second thought, let's get the f%k outta here before he kills us all!!!!!!"

Due respect Tom, would you want to be confined around the cast of the average reality show for thirty days or so in even moderately stressful conditions if they had a gun and you didn't? Ozzy without his his fix? The fat naked guy from Survivor? Paris Hilton with a gatt and no drugs, no makeup, no little rat dogs and no boy toys (and before you ask, not even with Eric's dick :P)? There's a true Marine! ;D
As far as being aware, its just that survival requires a weapon and a team. If folks value that weapon more than your life? You risk getting played.

Good God NO ! But you weren't talking about relatively normal people, YOU specified lawyers.

Before you can even begin to seriously consider this type of situation you have to accept that loners stand little chance, I already know of about 1/2 dozen  people who will be showing up here as their first step.
So, if we have the guns the others can want in one hand and maybe die on the other. (depend on who's on watch, one lady who will be coming here from across town has a thing for knives, and a Daddy who was a career Marine  ;D )
