Title: Couple of new toys.
Post by: MAUSERMAN on August 05, 2010, 11:55:18 PM
I just finished bringing a few new toys home and got around to finishing my 10/22 build. I picked up a pair of Mitchell Mausers at my local shop, one is a collectors grade 98k and the other a m63 tanker in 8mm but the one I'm most proud of is my 10/22 thats been on by work bench of the last 2 weeks. I finally got around to it this afternoon and now all i need to do is go to the range and test her out.

I hope you did not buy the Mitchells for Collector value as they have a reputation for being renumbered over priced fakes.
That does not take away from the fact that they have been polished (check the numbers and stamps, they are blurred from the polishing) and cleaned up real nice, Their Luger is worthless as a collector piece but the Maltese cross on the toggle looks cool.
Be sure to give us a range report on the M63, I like the looks of it, be sure to let us know what ammo and bullet wieght you use in it.
Love the 10/22  ;D

I hope the Mausers shoot as good as they look for you, and the 10/22 looks sweet! Congrats on the new additions.

My 1891 Argentine Mauser, (7.65mm) with steel butt plate, can make one's shoulder a wee bit sore after a few stripper clips.

Looking forward to a range report.

I shot 75 rounds of 190 + gr. surplus 8MM through one I had , pounded the crap out of me  ;D
I would expect the same or worse from the smaller, lighter rifle, even with lighter bullets.

Range report is coming soon. Ammo of choice is my own 175 grain load that wont tear you up, and I have a 198 grain load that is used for hunting only. As far as how many Mausers I own these two make it six. My 10/22 all i have to do is dial her in.
M63 .308
m63  8mm
98k x2 8mm
Argentine 7mm
m48 8mm

7MM is a nice round, I had a 1895 DWM Chilean Mauser years ago but ammo is more expensive   :'(

Can you give the details on the 10-22, barrel, stock, other modifications and upgrades?

Well guys its saturday and I dont have a range report. I was going to share pics of my day with my new toys but my babe lost my camera and decided to throw away my targets. All I can say is my 10/22 kept 10 rds in a 1 1/2 inch hole at 45  yards, and my M63 is minute of pork chop keeping everything in a 3 inch hole at 100yards. I used my own 175grn 8mm reloads.

Just to confirm or not a budding theory I have of a small part of the human female thought process.

The targets were disposed of because they were in plain sight and didn't match the decor, so they must be trash waiting to be taken to the can?

FIRST:   +++ on the new toys.   Any new gun is great.

Poo on the lost camera and wasted targets.   I cull mine when I first get home for those that I want to scan the rest go into the newspaper recycling bin, so I have till Monday morning to reclaim

That's probably pretty good on the M63,

But the 10/22.....  Did you try different ammo?  CCI Standard velocity gave amazing results in mine.

No I just used plain old remmington bulk 550 box i got at walmart. I want to see what cheap ammo is capable in my 10/22. I use cci mimi mags or win superX for serious target practice.
