Ok
This is the latest installment in "The Quaker's Big Montana Adventure". In this episode, the Quaker buys a cool flashlight. ;)
The Browning "Black Ice" (honestly, who comes up with these names, its a freaking flashlight). ::)
Size: Damn small. Its shorter and thinner than a tube of chapstick.
Versatility: High, it comes equipped with a key chain ring, which is where it should live. In your pocket and ready to go.
Construction: Excellent. Its made of aircraft aluminum and feels (and looks like) a very tiny mini-mag.
Operation: Again, think mini-mag. turn the head and its on. The beam does not adjust though.
Light source: 1 LED super special bulb with mirrors that blah, blah, blah. Its a fairly bright diffuse beam.
Batteries: Three hearing aid flat batteries. I would prefer triple A, but these work.
Useabilty: Excellent. Stepping into my pitch dark two car garage, I have plenty of light to see by. Its soft and diffuse, not pointed. This isn't a weapon, its a utility light (However, in the interest of science, I did point it into my own eyes and I'm seeing spots. The Quaker is nothing if not dedicated ;D). It lights up about half the garage (say a seven foot circle). I need to shift it around to view the whole thing, but more than good enough to work with. Its just not a room clearing light.I can more than live with that.
Battery life: They claim 12 hours. I haven't owned it long eough to test this.
Price: $12.95 :o Well worth the money for the brightness, size and construction. I would highly reccomend one.
Downsides: The key chain attachment is flimsy. Also, only available in cammo (don't drop it at night ::)). Plus, the hearing aid batteries rather than AAA, still, you can find them at CVS.
Still, I think the good more than outweighs the bad here. Its about as tactical as a Leatherman. A great thing to have when you need it and its small enough to ride on your key chain without you knowing its there.
Quaker likes it! ;D

Tell me about the switch. That is usually the weak point in a light.

A simple twist, just like a mini-mag. Its basically a straight up copy, only 1/3rd the size and brighter (although its a diffuse area light, not a high beam).Still, I really like it so far and for $13, what's the downside?

I have a couple small lights that are just about unbreakable. Once standard plain white one and a Blue coloured FX model.
They are called glo-toobs.

One of my favorite lights is the Krill light. It's an electronic version of a lightstick. The batteries last a LONG time.
