I had 2 now 1, Basenji, one of the oldest known breed of dog, more catlike than dog like, very independent, long legged with razor sharp teeth, they don't bark, as they developed before barking, they are sight hunters, too smart for their own good, in field trials, they often figure out the course and short cut it. Very athletic and run like horses not dogs. Beautiful to watch in motion. They Yodel instead of bark, sometimes really beautiful, however they can growl and very well. They only weigh 20-30 lbs, but are fierce when they need to be. Often called devil dogs, because they are so hard to train. Found originally in Egypt and Africa, and found in Egyptian art and sarcophagus. They were originally used for hunting, as in they hunted and killed and brought back the game.
Look them up.

I had a Basenji mix years ago for a short period of time, good dog! I think she was hit by a car while I lived on a very busy highway, never saw her again after she got out of the house while I was at work.
She kind of spoke to you rather than bark...

The Museum of The Rockies in Bozeman is hosting an exhibit on this starting in September. If you're there, probably worth a look.
