Title: Aussie gun laws and national defense
Post by: fightingquaker13 on August 11, 2010, 10:51:16 PM
I've been giving some thought to the FUBARED situation Phil and Sledge live under. It occurs to me that appeals to individual rights are wasted air. The nanny state has too firm a grip. However, there might be another way. The state currently feels threatened by gun owners. What if it felt comforted? Y'all live in a dangerous neighborhood. Japanese invasion was a real possibility within living memory. The Chinese and NKs are a stone's throw away. In the US we had the late, lamented Civilian Marksmanship Program, where the the government wouldn't just teach you to shoot, but give you a mil-spec rifle free. So.....Maybe a pitch to defend Oz by having a "rifle behind every blade of grass", an AK in every Wallabies pouch etc.? All very patriotic, relaively cheap budget wise, the state is in "control' and you get the guns? Just a thought.

It could be worse mexico arms the drug dealers, and then kill the locals and blame the U.S. for its problems. See the people in mexico cant even defend them selves because the gun laws are so F-ed up.

Read at least the first paragraph.  The government even gives them free ammo to practice with, encourages towns to have family oriented shooting ranges, and even promotes family oriented shooting events / competitions on holidays and weekends.  :o
