Title: Perspective
Post by: tt11758 on August 17, 2010, 02:38:06 PM
I don't consider myself the owner of an arsenal.  Don't have anywhere NEAR all the guns I'd like to have.  My collection is very modest, especailly when you compare it to some of my friends (*cough* Benny *cough* MB *cough*).  But today the wife's youngest brother was in town and we had lunch together.  Over lunch he told me that, now that his kids are no longer little, he was planning to get back into the gun thing.  After lunch we went back to the house and I took him into my gun room.  When I opened the safe his remark was, "Holy shit!!"

Sure, I have a couple of guns, but holy shit?!?

I guess everything is a matter of perspective.

Never enough,.... ::) Even though my Father, Son, close shooting friends, all pretty much say the same thing. Followed up by,

"What are you going to war or something?"

My gun collection has about as many guns as tumbled out of BillT's gun save when he replaced the steps to the second floor in it with a lift   ;D ;D

Mine has about as many as Michael Bane drops out of his pockets when he puts his pants on in the morning.

My gun "collection" would make you cry if you saw it............out of sadness for me actually calling it a collection.

Mine is smaller than it was. I'm about 10 guns lighter. BUT, now what I have is what I want/need (for generous values of need ;D), without me having had to spend money. There are just a couple of guns I think might fit into the (need) niche. After that, its just toy shopping. And and I like toys. ;D

I'm fortunate in the wife doesn't think we have nearly enough for WTSHTF, but my sons and friends all think in terms of one handgun, one shotgun and one rifle.   I tell them I only have one.....of each caliber....okay I do have several .22lr and three .223s, but for the most part I have just one gun.

What bugs me is the way some people, the media especially throw around the word "arsenal".   It seems anytime someone has more than one gun they call it an arsenal.     I think of an arsenal as containing many of the same gun.  You know,  100 M4s,  or a 100 PT92s, or a 100 Rem 870s.   Bunches of the same gun used to outfit many people.  What I have is a "collection".   Only one person to be outfitted, but many different guns for many different uses.   With a few exceptions none are the same caliber and those that are are distinctly different.   (e.g., a national match A2 vs a varmint A4 w/scope)   Each gun has a distinctly different purpose.   A collection....not an arsenal.

I still need a .243Win, a .260Rem, a 7mm-08, a .308, and oh what was that other thing a 7.62x54R?  yeah one of them.  Plus I never had a .41Mag or a .44Mag, much less a .38Super.   And I hear the FN5.7 is a fun plinker.

One gun is all I have.    My perspective.

Technically they are correct

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/arsenal

1 a : an establishment for the manufacture or storage of arms and military equipment b : a collection of weapons

It would be more accurate to use the term "Collection", or "Battery", since each has a specific purpose, but refering to your arsenal, (However humble  ;D  ) is proper English.

I get that reaction sometimes. I love it.  ;D

I also love when someone comes to me and says "I hear you're heavily into guns." or "I hear you like guns." It always puts a big smile on my face.

I don't have a collection.  I don't have an arsenal.  I have an addiction.  Firearms are my Mistress.
