A Norwegian journalist spent some time with the Taliban in Afghanistan. This is his report as it appeared on DATELINE in Australia. It's 21+ minutes long, but I think it is worth the time to gain some understanding of those we fight against. It graphically presents the difficulties we face on that field of battle.
It is an interesting look at our enemy and demonstrates why we are having such difficulty actually winning that war. Submitted by Crusader along with a heartfelt prayer for our fine young troops.

I have to ask, What defines a win ? What exactly do we wish to achieve in Afghanistan ?

Well, since we didn't just bomb them back to the stone age and leave a note warning them to leave us alone,...I guess it becomes slightly more complicated.
A "win", IMHO, would be pack up the troops, and start loading Daisy Cutters, and MOAB's in to the bombers. Start at the Eastern Border and proceed West. Anywhere intel knows there are active Taliban/Al-Quaeda is a target.
Napalm the poppy fields for good measure, and flatten any and all bldgs. over three stories tall. Keep the armed drones everywhere.
Have squadrons of planes loaded and ready in Kuwait, and tell Kahrzi (sp), we're outta here, but we'll hold you directly responsible if any attack on U.S. soil is traced back to your prehistoric sh**hole of a country.
Of course, since were not savages,....leave a nice post card. Like this:

We can't win, we will not beat them either. We need to leave that shithole and bring our troops home. It's not an easy thing to do but 8 years in that rat hole is enough. We cannot have a Marine Division guarding poppy fields so the locals will support us in our efforts.
Get out and make a stand on our own soil against terrorism and send the Congresscritters children to the front with the right tools. Maybe then they'll wake up!

Man! The announcer's lead-in to the story made 60 Minutes seem "fair and balanced."
Victory? Not by any definition that I'm familiar with. You just can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
Our involvement should have been limited to a retaliatory action and a promise to do it bigger and better if we have to come back. And a little industrial strength "Round Up" on the poppy fields for good measure on our way out.

Thank you TW...couldn't have said it better myself. Winning to me just means not having to hear another word about their dark ages, camel herding, swamp asses. 1050 a.d. is calling...they want their ignorance back.

See if you nuke one and tell the other sheet head countries that if any of their little problem children mess with us again they will get the same. The rest of the middle east will keep their little problem children in check.

Monroe had a very good idea back when he was President, He had a problem with folks bickering over slavery, which in an act of political expediency had been glossed over in the Constitution.
His solution was to buy a vacant piece of African Coast now called Liberia and provided free passage to all free blacks who wanted to go.
I'm thinking we could probably get a deal on land in Somalia, if they will sell their Mother's and rent their sisters, chances are they will let some acreage go cheap. All the Somali refugee's in Me. could go home and build an infrastructure of welfare offices and postal service such as they deal with in Lewiston, the Muslims who go there for the climate can build a government around that.
Or return to slavery, piracy, and smuggling like the locals.
