Title: Florida question:
Post by: Bic on August 28, 2010, 09:19:27 AM
 Hey Florida guys,
I'm trying to plan my schedule for early next year and I have the chance to go to Delray Beach in late February, I'm assuming that's not exactly 'high season' and that there may be some deals on hotels & such, although there is a mid size tennis tournament (the reason for my visit)  going on. Anything else I need to know? - weather, ease of access from Ft.Lauderdale Airport, etc.

Hey Bic, I live in the Ft. Laud area. The Canucks, and other "snowbirds" pretty much start in Nov. and stay around until Easter. Or St. Patricks Day.

Delray Beach is straight up I-95 about 35-40 minutes. Boca area is also very close. Just north of Pompano Beach. Kinda the 1/2 way point between Palm Beach and Lauderdale. There is a multitude of hotels in the immediate area. Boca Raton, and Delray Beach proper, may be more expensive than Pompano or Deerfield Beach which are within 5 miles of Delray. The closer you get to Palm Beach, the higher the rates.

If you are renting a car, Deerfield Beach is worth looking around for hotel deals.

The weather is great in late Feb. usually the time of year I get yelled at by our "Northern Frontier" members. 8)

If you have any other questions let me know, I can do a little recon for you.

Take care.

I live in Palm Beach. Its about even driving time vs Ft. Lauderdale sp get the cheapest flight. You are in high season so don't expect a break (for that try August ;)). Weather wise its a crap shoot. 80 and sunny or 55 and blustery.Occasionally it even gets cold. The past three years were VERY mild, but this last year we got some real cold. The other good news is if you have the inclanation and money to go off shore, its the right time for billfish and spinner sharks. Dress for anywhere fom early summer to fall. PM me if you want more info. Delray has some pretty good eateries and lots of beach. It just depends on your budget.
