Title: Pocket 380
Post by: CJS3 on August 29, 2010, 04:19:00 PM
I've been planning on getting a pocket 380, and yesterday I finally pluncked down some cash and brought one home. I'd been comparing features and decided that I wanted the slide to lock open on the last shot, and a hammer fired vs striker fired pistol. That leaves only 2 pistols to choose from. The S&W Bodyguard, and the Taurus TCP. The Smith is a lot more than the Taurus, but has a built in laser and an external safety (big +).

I was all set to put cash down on a S&W layaway, but I came across a TCP at a gun show for $260. That was less than what I was planning on putting down on the Smith, so I had to pull the trigger on it.

I took it out to the range today and was pleased at how well it shot. The only complaint I had was the sights. With my eyes, they're pointless. Of course it was always my intention to add a laser, so hard to see sights aren't really that big of a deal for me. Come to think of it, that has been the problem with all pocket pistols that I've looked at.

At the range today, I fired 50 rounds of 85gr LRN reloads, and 40 rounds of 88gr HP reloads. I also shot two mags worth of Remington HD self defense ammo through the little pistol (my self defense load). It function flawlessly and ate everything I gave it. Recoil was a lot less than I thought it would be, but I did have to experiment with my grip to find the most comfortable way to grip the pistol. After that, it was just a matter of developing the proper muscle memory.

Even though I have to add the laser seperately, I still think the little black stainless pistol was a good buy.

Congratulations CJ, Taurus has been quietly and steadily getting better and better for many years in their semi-auto market.

Pocket pistols, are what they are, the point blank to 5 yd pistol. Sights are kinda a moot point. Like my Kel-Tec P3AT. Lasers are the modern "equalizer".  Yes, grip IS different. But sounds like it is going to work for you.

Just got back from some errands, running around, etc,....My "leetle" friend quietly carries in cargo shorts and a T-shirt, with a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster.

Thanks for the range report, and pics.

Gee,

No "issues"
Shot all ammo
Put groups on paper.

"Score!!!!!"

That would be a good price for a Kel-tec, you win! Hows the trigger?

Congrats.   I've had my TCP about 2 months and carry it almost everywhere.

One other good thing about the TCP is it comes with 2 mags and a carrying pouch.

Sweet! I noticed, when comparing the various brands, that the hammer fired pistols had better triggers than the striker fired pistols.
