Just got through watching a movie named Crazy, like the Patsy Cline hit, about HanK Garland, the guitarist behind the scenes, really good, and heartbreaking in the end. But MAN the music was killer, he played for all the greats, Elvis, Roy Orbison, etc....
I highly recommend it. On demand on netflix, Michael Bane, you will like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael might know this but I did not, Hank wrote and performed the sugar foot rag, a really technical piece, in my humble opinion, so I offer Texas artist, JR Brown.

What the heck was that thing he was playing ? I did not know "Victorinox or Leatherman made Guitars. ???
Did I see the Drummer working with a wrench ? ::) :o ;D

"In 1985 Junior invented a double-necked guitar, with some assistance from Michael Stevens. Junior called the instrument his "guit-steel". When performing, Junior plays the guitar by standing behind it, while it rests on a small podium/music stand. The top neck on the guit-steel is a traditional 6-string guitar, while the lower neck is a full-size lapsteel guitar for slide playing."
I think I need to hear some more Junior.

Thanks for the tip, M25. I noticed that movie on Netflix, but had not taken the opportunity to watch it. I'll take your recommendation, though and check it out. I needed some holiday viewing material.

Junior Brown is one hell of a picker.
Thanks for the heads up on the movie, m25.

Man...JR can play.
I have no experience with musical instruments, but was mesmerized by his playing. Didn't like it when the video left his hands. Was as enjoyable to watch him play as to listen.

I remember seeing Junior Brown at the Sons of Herman Hall in Dallas about 18 years or so ago - just awesome, blew my tiny mind.
It's good to see you baby it's been a long long while
We're both a whole lot older and seen a lot of miles
But thing are different now since the good ol days
And youve been in some trouble
Since we went our separate ways
Well have to say hello maybe some other time instead
Cause youre wanted by the police
And my wife thinks youre dead.
Somebody spread the rumor that you had lost your life
Least thats the way I heard it and what I told my wife
Now here youre showing up again and talk is getting round
And I can see that one of us will have to leave this town
If you think that I want trouble
Than youre crazy in your head
Cause youre wanted by the police
And my wife thinks youre dead.
You never called or wrote me just up and disappeared
Nobody knew what happened
Where you been for all these years
Now troubles what youre lookin like
Cause troubles where you been
And I can see the kind of trouble you could get me in
You better pay attention to every word I said
Cause youre wanted by the police
And my wife thinks youre dead.
So goodbye to you baby Im glad weve got to talk
But Im faithful to my wife and I dont ever break the law
I dont know where youre headed for
But I know where you been
Were reminisced now lets just go our separate ways again
Go find another ex-sweetheart to hang around instead
Because youre wanted by the police
And my wife thinks youre dead.

He used to, and still might, play at the Continental Club in Austin pretty regularly. It was the perfect Austin scene. A hole in the wall club, next door to "Just Guns" and across the street from a great Mexican joint on South Congress Avenue within a few blocks of the capitol and the bridge with the bats. What more could you want for entertainment? Pure Texas. ;D
FQ13 who will give you the vid for "My Wife Thinks You're Dead". The man is hard core, and its a song too many board members can relate to. (M'Lette?????? Paging M'Lette....). ;D

ok, yas got me hooked on this guy.
Just can't get over watching him play. the style of his music. and his strong voice.
I noticed in all the videos that the woman in the band sure looked like she was in love with him. From the research I've done I'd have to guess that is Tanya Rae Brown, his wife. :D :D They have their hearts into their music.
Found his tour schedule, so since I'm a new fan, I'll post hit here....and yes, FQ, he does still show up at the Continental Club in Austin often.
He is close to here on the 17th of Sept. so I guess I should see if I can make it.
Thanks for the exposure :D :D :D
