Title: Greetings from Manila
Post by: sledgemeister on September 07, 2010, 09:17:08 AM
Howdy yall, been here three days now and loving it, havent been approached by any girls yet a little dissapointed LOL maybe I need to go outside more at night hehe
Weather is warm, very humid like being in a butterfly enclosure or a cactus house but its tolerable, I wouldnt like to run a marathon in it though.
The amount od security here is amazing, every store, bank, maccas, 7/11 has armed guards on the door most have dirty old s&w 38's but some have the tried and trusted pump action riot dont F#$k with me shotty LOL
I might try and see if I can get a pic with some tomorrow lol.
People are very friendly and every one calls you sir, I have to keep saying NO my name is Rob.

any way a couple pics,
1: from my hotel room
2: on the way to work in taxi
3: the office where I am located (right next to or accross the road from the US war cemetry some 200 acres)
4: Looking towards the cemetry (all the green at far end of street)

any hoo be good fellas and I will catchya abouts

PS
this place gives you a real good perspective on life, as good as some aspects are there are some that will break your heart, watching a girl about ten leading her grandfather about begging with a cup through the traffic because not that he was merely blind he actually had no eyes.
Also most of these guys I work with catch upto 5 different types of transport to get to work, tricycle, bike, jeepnee, bus etc which takes some over three hours to get to work and over three to get home plus the 8 hours at work.

some more pics from tonight. Starting to really like this place ALOT!
.40c beers, $1.00 pack of cigs, cheap laundry, goodlooking sheilas, great food and its warm! I must admit I was thinking armpit of south east asia and in some respects it is, but there is a different side.
Any way some pics of my walk through glorietta's and greenbelt. and a toy store hehe, the closest I have come to finding firearms except on security.

Sledge, remember that Rock Island Armory is located near Metro Manila. see if you can get a tour, maybe a few free samples..... you know. anyway, some of my shipmates have fallen in love with the pretty young girls and gone to live there. have tried to get info grom the guys, but most are in Manila now and aren't responding to emails and the other guys live in Davao. anyway, have fun and stay safe.

Spent time around Angles City and Mabalacat.   More time than I care to remember.....or do remember actually.   It really made me appreciate what have in the states.

Be careful out there.

An acquaintance of mine (long hesitation calling him a "friend") has more or less moved to the Phillipines. When he comes back here he's lonely because most women I know thing he's creepy. He tells me that over there, you can basically "rent a wife". There are women who "domesticate" with several men through out the year as a way of making a living. He's got one for the summer months and a different one that gets him through from Christmas 'till May or so.
I don't know, I don't think I could develop the right attitude for that.
But you could try it and let us know how it goes! 8)

And women who aren't so desperate as to prostitute themselves to survive think he's creepy? Gee, I can't imagine why. ::) :P

FQ, It's not really as messed up as your purient imaginings. In fact it is a heck of a lot more sensible than the guy I know of who lives, and works up here cuz his house hasn't sold, while his wife is living in their new house in Conn. They see each some weekends.
Besides, don't they say "Variety is the spice of life"   ;D

I suppose economic decisions drive their life choices - sad really. But dont think its only tourists that visit the girly bars, maybe around the touristy, but outside that area the locals frequent a lot more. Lot of these girls have families to support. The girls that work for the bars etc do so 6 days a week and are not allowed to have boyfirends, if they get spotted with a fella on the day off, and the madam finds out they expect to be paid.
its a weird weird world

And a cold and hard one too. You're probably not doing them any favors by refusing to partake. You are however, doing yourself one. Its a line you should never cross. It won't change the world if you don't. It will change you if you do.
FQ13 who is no one's idea of a prude or a saint. Still, I've never paid for it, never slept with a girl who was drunk, and never taken no for "maybe". If you can't find a woman who wants to sleep with you of her own free will? Thats why God gave us a right hand and put Hugh Heffner on the planet. There are some lines a gentleman will just never cross. Rant over. :-\

I seem to recall a clown getting a 2 million dollar grant to research prostitutes and alcaholism in China. do you think this could be called 'research'?
now, more seriously, most of the young girls I have met overseas that came from the Phillipines were not looking for a 'John' but if they liked you, you could hook up with them later... etc.... (many bars here that are full of them, but like I said, not hooking) two of my shipmates have ended up with girls from these bars and one is married and the other is........ well. never mind. so. go out and have a good time and if you aren't married have even more fun. sometimes the girls just approach you and start talking and... you get the idea.

gotta go. getting ready for Pearl Harbor.

I went out tonight by myself and and I doubt I will even tell my closest and dearest because I was sickened by the thought. I went to a anglo type bar and partook of a few bevvies (drinkies in aussie speak) and about 10 oclock thought I better make my way back to the hotel while I could remember the way, after a few san miguels and some jack daniels the lines of sobriety and fun start to blurr. In any case I started to wander my way back to the hotel, by this time the secure shopping mall districts had started to close so I  took to the street. Immediately upon entering the street I was set upon by children beggars, I could not see the parents if they even had them I do not even know. They tried to sell me these little posie of flowers which I politely refused as one does, then the brother (i assume) ABOUT ALL OF 6 tried to sell his sister. You mister want blow job, mister want sex with young girl!!!! I was horrified and gob smacked, this poor little girl no older than 5 or 6 started to follow me. I just reached into my pocket and gave her some change probably 10 peso to leave me alone. I was sickened. I just have to wonder howmany other westerners would take up this kids offer for his sister?
I am no prude and hey a bloke is a bloke and as they say a drunk dick has no concious but for a kid to prostitute his sister to me is a little beyond beleif at least for this little aussie black duck.
I am supposed to go out tomorrow night with some filipino mates to some interesting areas I just hope I never have to experience that situation ever again.
I wish I now had of could have taken those poor little bugger back home to aus with me, breaks my heart it really does.
To quote FQ in the third person:
sledgemeister will never be the same again, nor look at a kid in the same innocence as he once did.
Sledge has lost his innocence at age 42.

It gets even stranger than just "working girls". This guy was telling me that he has a "girlfriend" who lives with him for 6-8 months. When he comes back to the states, she has another guys that is there for a few months. She moves in and plays house with him. Then she goes back to the guy I know. He knows two women like that. So it really IS like "rent a wife".

Wouldn't be surprised if she tended to the absent guys place while living with the other.

They are probably making the best of what their society and social status can provide them.  Could be likely they have more stability and respect with their rotating relationships than they could get on the street.  Probably feel more honor and self respect too.

And the kids selling posies...often it is just a ruse to get your wallet in sight so they can snatch it.  And selling their sisters might be a way to get you to an isolated spot where you will find their brothers instead.  Not that sisters are not for sale....

Life is tough out there and folks, even little kids, will do what they need to do to survive.

No was an eye opener, some locals explained to me last night it was most likely these kids were working for crim gangs, apparently its not unknown for these arsewipes of humanilty to goto the provinces and kid nap kids to make them work on the streets, they have no way of finding there way back home or are told they will be killed or their family will if they ry to run. If they tell the police its possible that they are the corrupt ones that are protecting the crims anyway. Anything can be brought here mate, you want some one dead? 10000 peso (250 aus) is the current asking price, for that you get a motorbike rider pull up beside you walking down the street while his/her pillion pulls out a 9mm or 45 and pops two in ya head. A German guy was tapped here a few weeks ago because he had too many girlfriends and one got too jealous, its ok if you have a missus in australia, or america, but you start seeing more than one filipino girls and your walking a tight rope. Usually some ones at the end cutting it too. LOL
