Title: Sig 228 vs. 229

Ok, so i've searched a few other forums and now i am confused. Since several people here seem to enjoy the sig, i thought i'd ask my question here. One group i've heard from says the sig 228 is the best-balanced 9mm out there, while the other group says the 229 is the soft-shooting 9mm available. There are some other pros and cons, of course, but i just wanted to hear from the experts.

Anyway, i'd like to hear if one group is right, while the other is wrong, or if i can't go wrong with either one of them. I know I just need to get out and try them, but it's tough to find someone to let me shoot their gun since i just moved to town. Any insight is appreciated.

I don't mean to confuse the issue, but you owe it to yourself to try a P226.  If you don't mind the added weight, a P226ST.  The stainless steel version is as soft a shooting 9 mm as there is IMHO and I think somewhat more accurate than a P228.

CDR, your suggestion doesn't confuse the issue at all, as far as i'm concerned. I've got a 226 and didn't have a very good experience with it, but i suspect that it had more with it being a range gun and very dirty than anything else. I was more just very confused about the differing views on the 228 and 229. I know each person will have a different opinion, but it does seem odd that so many people have an opinion about two guns that seem to be almost identical.

I guess i should clarify what i am trying to learn. I'm just looking for some opinions on the two guns and if there is any advantage the 228 has over the 229 or vise versa.

I'm still a long way off from buying one. I'd have to figure out what to do with my Glock 19 before i could even consider purchasing a new gun.
