Title: New USPSA Club
Post by: alfsauve on September 14, 2010, 09:24:45 PM
Sandy Springs.............uh...

Oh heck, let me check that email again........

Got it...  Sandy Springs Practical Shooting League

It's the new range, near me in north Fulton county (Atlanta).   I'd heard that someone was going to organize an affliated USPSA club at the new range.    Got an email today and it looks like  I will be a charter member of the newest club.

We're talking 15 minutes from the work and 20 from the house.   Cool.

Let's see.......go over and practice on Tuesday at lunch.   Shoot a 2 stage match on Thursday night.   Go to the rifle range on Friday.....life is good.

Isn't it hard to shoot a pistol with 3 fingers and a thumb? I can see a rifle would be ok, but doesn't your fur get caught in the trigger?

Just ask'n

First meeting, first match.   New range, too.

12 of us (uspsa) signed the charter and formed the club.   One non-joiner shot with us.  Several people at the range came in to watch.

SORRY:  Nobody brought a camera.

We did 4 stages.
El-Presidente PLUS.   4 targets, 10yds.  8rds-reload-8rds-reload-8rds
11 targets in V-shape with  mandatory portal
8 targets in V with hardcover in the way
Bill Drill (6 shots 5yds)   (I "A"ced in 3.6seconds)

It was our first match and the range folks wanted it kept simple.  Plus we had to move in all our targets.   We'll add more cover and some real "run and gun" next week.

We have a beginning web-site.    Not much but we'll add to it.  http://sspsl.org/ (http://sspsl.org/)

Sounds great, Alf.

On the ground floor.  You are growing as you help grow the club.  A rewarding experience.

Many years from now, some brand new members and shooters will be chatting and one will point at you and say in a hushed voice..

"See that guy?  That's Alf. He's one of the Founding Fathers"   ;D ;D ;D

"See that guy?  That's Alf. He's one of the Founding Fathers"   ;D ;D ;D

I'd rather they say, "That's, Alf.   Grandmaster in Production."

Hope things work out for you and the club.  I helped start a couple clubs and it is a lot of fun but also a lot of work.

Stay Safe,

Richard

Got the scores.    I'm still slow....but accurate.      I've listed them below.

Also am designing a club 'patch' or "logo".

PRELIMINARY:

What do you think?

The basic background, hills and stream are part of the "City of Sandy Springs" logo.   The STI Trubor gun is used with permission.

Alf, I like to check myself against all shooters and until you get a larger group that works but later you should only compare to those in "Production" to be fare to yourself.  Are you using the scoring program available thru USPSA?

Richard

PS:  Great design!

Fantastic design, Alf, one of the best I've seen.

Yep we're using EZWin.   I'm the backup data entry person.   Rather than post 5 or 6 different score sheets, I thought I'd just post the overally summary one.  You can see there were basically were 4 Production shooters....and one left early so he  DNF last stage.    Not a lot to compare to.

My goals are
1)  Safety (no DQs no Warnnings) [check]
2)  Accuracy (to excess since I have the highest raw points in 3/4 stages)
And my new ones are
3)  Smoothness (sighting target-to-target, mag changes, and movement)
4)  Aggressiveness (more speed)

Granted until I give up a little accuracy for speed, I won't place in the top.   But it's an ego trip during the match to have the RO call out "All 'A's "and hear everybody go....ohhhh.

You are at the top or near the top in points in every stage.  That seems real good to me.   I'd expect you will get faster as you learn the stages and get their "rhythm".

The Logo.  Looks good.  Not sure I like the "Mauve" border, but that is a personal preference.

Maybe "Tabs" at the top and/or bottom to show things like  "Officer" "Charter Member"  "Member" "Grand Master" if they can be made affordable for for those who would want to purchase them?

For those that don't know about the creative process.....there's much pain and anguish involved.   I started with the premise that I'd copy the look/feel of the City of Sandy Springs (where we shoots) logo, then add elements to denote IPSC.   After 3 "official" revisions I think this is what we're going with.

In case you're wondering about copyright issues.   The overall badge only loosely follows the city's design(http://sandyspringsga.org (http://sandyspringsga.org)) and the colors are of my choosing.   The sky line and river (sandy spring) are from Microsoft ClipArt and their EULA gives permission to incorporate their elements in a user's product.   The gun pictures were provided by and used with permission of STI.   (Wish I had money to buy one of their guns.)  And the target drawings came from a source that invited users to copy them.

Anyone else want a logo designed for them?   Reasonable rates.     not cheap ---  think,  I want an STI gun.

Looks good!!!!!!!!

Speed comes from repetition.
