"Non sibi sed patriae" (Not self but country)

I am a United States Sailor.
I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and I will obey the orders of those appointed over me.
I represent the fighting spirit of the Navy and those who have gone before me to defend freedom and democracy around the world.
I proudly serve my country's Navy combat team with Honor, Courage and Commitment.
I am committed to excellence and the fair treatment of all.

I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense. I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist. If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy. If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will back them up in every way. When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause. I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

There is nothing better for properly motivating a Service member than reciting the Code of Conduct after completing three days of POW training led by a former resident of the Hanoi Hilton.

"They fought", AND STILL, fight for all of us, and if they could they would DO IT AGAIN! The damn allergies get in the way, but with nothing but pride, respect, and admiration, the next generation must be reminded that our countrymen and women, FIGHT FOR US.

They have to simply "get it", it is NOT some scratchy black & white video, or soundbite on the evening news. Thankfully, this video reminds us of that.

I miss my Grandfather, he went home to God years ago, but his life, his lessons, his trials and tales of survival in the Pacific theater of WWII, will NEVER be forgotten. My son carries on this legacy, he knows, and he listens, and knows ALL that sacrificed for this country.

And he salutes those continuing the fight for ALL OF US. Great post Marshal'ette. Thank you.

Sure do wish he was here today.

Allergies are really kicking up this year...

For all us "old vets" I would point out that though the words, "I fought for you," are of great importance, the words that follow should also be acknowledged and revered:  "And I'd do it again."

Until I can no longer crawl, until my fingers cannot reload my weapon, until my heart ceases its rythmic beat, I remain an American fighting man.

Viewed it yesterday before there were any posts and couldn't post then because this dose of allergies seemed to reach deep inside.

It is still difficult today, just reading all your replies.

As I've said before, we can never repay what they, all who served and have served honorably in our military, are owed and for what they never expected payment.

And yes, the "And I'd do it again" is the clincher.
