Went to the gun show after church. Sold my M1 Carbine and my Charles Daly Maxi-Mag, which gave me enough cash to buy something I've wanted for a while. I finally got a .357 Lever gun. It's got the 16 inch barrel. I'd rather have one in stainless, but I think I'm happy with the one I got. Now I gotta get to the range.

That's about how I felt about my M1 Carbine. Like the history; it's a fun little shooter, but I don't have a real practical use for it. The shotgun, I sold because I don't bird hunt. I got MOST of my money back on the Carbine (All but $20. I paid $270, and got $250 for it.). The Shotgun, I was given a fair price for. $200 cash and $50 worth of ammo. (A box of .45 ACP ball, and a box of .223 Soft points.) That got me a rifle I've been jonesing for, so I'm happy. (And yes, I do have the new boom stick in my lap as I type; as is the true gun nut tradition. ;D ) I did come pretty close to buying a Charter Arms Bulldog instead, but I reminded myself how hard .44 Special ammo can be to find. One guy had a Winchester 94 in .30-30 for $300. I thought about getting it, but it looked like it may have been beat up. Also, I didn't feel like adding yet another caliber to my ammo stash right now.
There is one thing I don't like about my 92 though. The Saddle ring. I've never been real keen on Saddle rings. BUT It's definitely a flaw I can overlook.

I had a`Winchester 94 in .44 mag with a saddle ring. I sold it. :'( Its one of my list of "what was I thinking" trades. Still, I never could figure out what the damn thing was for. Its sort of like the forward assist on an AR. Nice in theory, but I'm half willing to buy any GI who's ever felt the need to use it a beer. ;D

Nice trade. I loved my M-1 carbine for the history, but hated it for being, well, an M-1 carbine. Others might disagree, but I think a .357 lever is a solid improvement for hunting and SD. Now you need a GP 100 to go with it and you are set.
FQ13 who is envious and looking forward to the RANGE REPORT!

Nice gun. I don't have any use for a saddle ring so I took mine off and plugged the hole with a screw.

Now you'll have to buy a saddle ;D

Nice rifle, Walter.

DAMN Walter! Wish I was there to take that M-1 off you hands! 250 is a STEAL. I'd would have given ya the 270 and paid the shipping!

Somebody told me that my carbine was a parts gun that someone built. It was ok with me, because it shot well and fed well.

Don't believe it unless they prove it, and mixed serial numbers on military weapons proves nothing, when the arsenal reconditions them they do not worry about "matching numbers". If you see one with all matching numbers is the time to be suspicious.

Don't even think about it. I've made trades where, in retropect and with hindsight, I got fleeced. Yeah, that sucks. But......if you traded a gun you weren't using for one you will use? Who cares? Its only worth as much as you think it its worth. I've traded a $500 gun for a $300 one, and walked away happy since I got what I wanted. That's all that matters.
Just my .02.

They're all parts guns.

Like I said, I got it for the right price, and it worked. And when I sold it, I got exactly what I wanted to out of it. It doesn't matter to me if Billy Bob built it. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Saddle ring and a single point sling. I wonder how it balances.

Well, I'll hopefully get to shoot my new Lever gun in a couple weeks. *fingers crossed* A friend at work wants to go with me to shoot it. I'll get a range report posted, and hopefully gun pron asap.
Oh, and droggsey, I LOVE the avatar!
