I can't remember the entire conversation as shared with me, so I'm putting this here and texting the big guy to fill you in on the conversation ... It is good!

My Congressman (one of the GOOD guys, FYI) was in town last week campaigning for himself, as well as for the Republican candidate for Iowa Attorney General, who happens to be one of his former staffers. She impresses me greatly, but that's another thread.
Please bear in mind that the following exchanges are the gist of the conversation....I wasn't taking notes at the time.
The day had begun with the AG candidate appearing with me on the radio show, where she made the assertion that the State Attorneys General were the "last line of defense the citizens have" against a Federal Government run amok.
After the show, the AG candidate, my Congressman and I were having a chat when I mentioned to her that I disagreed with her assertion. I said, "The Attorney General is the NEXT-TO-LAST line of defense against a Federal Government run amok, the Second Amendment is the LAST line of defense."
At that point, the Congressman chimed in and said (something to the effect), "You are absolutely correct. That's what the Founding Fathers intended. The Second Amendment is VITAL to the freedom of this country and her citizens. The Second Amendment is truly the last line of defense. God forbid things should ever devolve to that point. However, we both know what Jefferson had to say about refreshing the tree of liberty from time to time."
I think this guy's a keeper.

The state Attorneys General are part of the LOCAL Government.
The Second Amendment also servers as a Last Defense against a Local Government run amok.

That is reinforced in the State Constitution's of NH and Kentucky with Article's protecting the right to armed resistance.
Here it is Article 10.
