When I received the CMP newsletter about a month ago and saw that they had a few hundred Service Grade Winchester Garands available, I sent in my order the next day. While I have 3 Garands, they are all Springfield Armory manufacture and I wanted some diversity.
The newsletter said it would be 60-90 days before they could get to the orders...no big deal I thought. Sent the order in on Oct 15, they received it on the 18th. I've been in Italy this week and received notice that FedEx tried to deliver a rifle to me on Thursday. Hmmm....ok, not 90 days but closer to 10. Good service as usual from the CMP. Picked it up tonight after I got home from the airport...she's pretty

Serial number shows that it was manufactured in June 1941. I've been pretty lucky with the CMP so far...all my rifles have been manufactured between 1939 and 1944. This one is in nice shape...haven't pulled it apart yet to see how much is original Winchester. The barrel is good...ME = 0, TE=2. The stock is a CMP replacement...would rather that it was original but it DOES make it nice looking. I need to start looking for an IH and H&R Garand now.
And I gotta sell one of my SA's to justify this one...
They are shown as the top 3 rifles here

That is one fine looking gun, KPR...especially the stock grain.

Ditto. I thought "service grade" would be a beater. Apparently not. Congrats.

Nice furniture KPR, great addition.
Is the wood finished?Stained? it looks natural.

No slight to the M-1, but a Garand is a Garand, assuming equal condition it is the wood that sets one apart from the other.
Looks like you got a winner there KPR.

Not sure what the CMP puts on their stocks. The stocks they sell on the site look like they are just oiled but this one has some color to it.
