Title: "Just drive! I think I hear banjo's!"
Post by: Badgersmilk on November 06, 2010, 09:28:56 PM
On the way to a friends house today and saw.

If you look closely at the smaller signs.  You see that yes.  You can pick your own collards for $1 a head!

Are you as surprised as me at the lack of bullet holes in these signs?!?  If nothing else, living in the South is amusing!   ;D

Easy on the South now.  >:(  ;D Some of us were born and raised down here.  ;)

Nah, I don't care; I grew up about 15 mins from Hog Waller Hollar Rd.  In which state are you?  That way I might can join you in making fun of them.

Some may dismiss Florida as even being in the South, but Jefferson Davis had a home here, so we have some claim to Southerness.

Highest natural point in the state is just over 400 feet above sea level.  Now, that right there is flat.

Florida and the coasts don't count.  When the Polar ice caps melt they won't be around...they'll be under ice water!  LOL

Home:  Exactly 1.4 miles from the ocean, front yard elevation according to Garmin...  9'!   :o

Directly east of here there is a sign on the beach saying "Tsunami zone"...  Who cares!  I have a weather alert radio, live at the top of a three story building, have a really fast car, and know God loves me best!!!   ;D ;D ;D

1,005' here in Atlanta.

Wife's relatives live on Lady's Island, SC.   They wanted some high ground for the family to retreat to during hurricanes.   So, as part of their construction business, they got a permit for a construction land fill.  People paid them to haul off construction waste and dirt.   That way they actually made money while constructing their "safe ground"   It's now about 20' high and large enough for all their personal and business vehicles, boats, RVs and campers.  It's one of the highest points in Beaufort County now.

I guess you guys down in the dangling state could have it worse.....

Look at New Orleans for example: Elevation -6.5 to 20 ft (-2 to 6 m). Surrounded by water, with elevation in areas of -6',.......Hmmmmm.....sounds like a great place to build a city.

On the drive from the airport to the hotel on a visit to New Orleans, I noticed that the cemetery we passed had no tombstones marking the usual grave sites, just above ground mausoleums.  Wondered about it for a bit on the ride before I figured it out.

I bet they don't have many homes with basements either.....probably not in FL either.

What do you call an engineer who designs a city six feet below sea level, and  fills it with liberals and welfare babies?

Let me be the one to point out that as messed up as the French may be, it wasn't the French quarter that flooded, even they were smart enough to build a little bit above river level

Lets not forget the fact that its sinking a fraction of a inch ever year.

I've talked with many people that lived around that area... pretty much all of them agree NO is nothing but drunks and whores.
