I went to the Midwest Memorial Bunny Hunt and Battle Rattle (MMBH&BR) this weekend. Every year around Veteran's Day, a bunch of guys who fought in Gulf War I get together and hunt pheasants in the morning and shoot mil style weapons in the afternoon. There might also be an adult beverage and a lie or two told by the campfire at night.
Well, I've been going for the last 7 years or so...it is a memorial now that my best friend passed on back in '06. As the years have gone by, we've been attracting more and more kids and now we spend more time loading and instructing for them, and less time shooting ourselves....and we have every bit as good a time.
Hunting was lousy because of the 40 degree temp and driving rain, but it cleared up in time for the afternoon shoot. My truck came home lighter by ~400 rounds of .308, 300 rounds of .223, 300 rounds of .45 ACP in the Tommy gun, 200 rounds of 12 ga and around 1000 rounds of .22. Other guys went through roughly similar amounts Worth every penny.
About half of the weapons that were out there.

Here's the range...we set up left over pumpkins, milk gallons full of water, steel swingers, and a bunch of other reactive targets everywhere. The old truck is at 100 yds. The end of the range is at 200 yds.

My son like the SCAR but decided he really liked my Tommy gun (too heavy for him to hold though)

He also made me proud by instructing some of the little ones...I didn't even have to ask him

A few of the motley crew

We even made s'mores that night...nothing like a sugar rush when you're tired.

Sounds like a great time, and a good experience for all concerned. ;D

Awesome, it's times like these that remind us what the good things in life are all about.

The kids will remember these events for 60 years...and be telling your grandchildren about them for about as long....and if it all works out, maybe will be taking the grandkids on the same trip each year. Gosh...maybe shoot some of the same guns as this time as hand me downs.....
But I have one question...where do the Bunnies come in?
