So if you and your friends are in the man cave, playing cards, shootin' pool, and two armed Darwin Candidates walk in and demand money,.....
Well,......the BG's get shot....
http://www.examiner.com/self-defense-in-national/2-armed-robbers-shot-self-defense-by-armed-victim
A pair of robbers were reportedly shot by one of their victims.
Police say that just before 1:00AM, five people were playing cards and pool in a home on the 4400 block of Woodcrest Drive in Albany, GA, when two armed robbers entered and demanded money. One of the robbery victims is said to have drawn his own gun and opened fire in self defense, striking each of the robbers. Two suspects were treated at local hospitals for their injuries, and no injuries to the robbery victims were reported, according to news reports.
Once again, armed self defense has allowed a crime victim to stop violent criminals before it was too late. In doing so, this crime victim saved not only himself, but also protected the other individuals who were present. Simply put, armed self defense works.

Guys playing poker and pool in a guys Man Cave......
Probably no alcohol was involved since the shooter managed to hit and disable both perps without killing any of his buddies.

It doesn't say how many shots were fired. ;) If they were playing cards at 1am and no alchohol was involved, they were doing something wrong. Just sayin'. ;D

Nah. I'm in North Ga. That was Albany (pronounced "ALL BAINE E") down in SE part of the state, which is closer to Pegleg's territory.
For those who need a reminder on the Fedora, from my days when I was stumping for a costume shop.

Down here we pronounce it All-Benny...................About 35 miles west of me on US82.
What's the big deal?? Heck I've shot pool and played cards with no alcohol involved before. ;D
It did get me thinkin' though..... if alcohol was involved.........when your home is invaded by someone and you have to defend yourself, alcohol should not be a legal issue. The only issue I see with alcohol is its hindering one's abilities and judgment, but all bets on judgment are off if the SOB comes in my house.....IMHO.

Agreed. Alchohol is an X factor in most SD suituations. But if there is clear forceable entry into your home in the wee hours? Who cares if you were drunk as a skunk? If they hadn't broken in, it wouldn't be an issue. Ergo its their problem. At least thats what a properly written "castle doctrine" law should say. Just my .02.

MEREDITH – Nearly 100 friends and family members gathered at Picnic Rock Farm on Route 3 Thursday to protest the three-year prison sentence now being served by the farm's manager, Ward Bird, on a criminal threatening conviction.
"Free Ward Bird'' signs were held up to passing motorists and yellow ribbons were passed out as a petition circulated among those who had gathered to show their support for Bird, a father of four and Boy Scout leader in his hometown of Moultonborough. As darkness settled in, dozens of signs were held up, some of them by Boy Scouts.
Bird reported to the New Hampshire State Prison this week after the State Supreme Court last month upheld his April 2009 conviction in Carroll County Superior Court for threatening a woman with a .45-caliber handgun after she arrived at his property trying to locate land she was looking to buy on which she planned to house animals.
Bird had been sentenced to prison for no less than three and no more than six years, with the court citing RSA 651:2, II-g, which imposes a mandatory minimum sentence of three years "if a person is convicted of a felony, an element of which is the possession . . . of a deadly weapon, and the deadly weapon is a firearm."
"He had a gun but he didn't point it at her, even though that's what she said at the trial,'' said Ward Bird's wife, Ginny Bird. "He had been trying to get her to leave for a long time and held up the gun to check the safety as he was coming into the house to call police and tell them there was a trespasser on our property.
"He has a right to defend his property, his children and his family," she added. "But his constitutional rights aren't being upheld in this case. The woman should have been arrested for criminal trespass."
The incident took place on March 27, 2006, when Christine Harris arrived on Bird's remote Moultonborough property, which was well-marked with no trespassing signs, after making a wrong turn.
Harris testified at the trial that as she parked her Ford Ranger, Bird came out of the house and yelled a profanity at her, telling her to leave the property, and came down the porch waving a gun. She said she asked him some questions and that Bird had come down from the porch, again waving the gun at her, as she backed out of the driveway.
During the trial, Bird's attorney, Mark Sisti, attempted to open a line of questioning about Harris and her animals in an attempt to introduce into evidence Harris's conviction on animal cruelty charges in Salem in January of 2008.
She had been found guilty in Salem District Court of keeping 50 dogs and two birds in squalid conditions and was sentenced to six months in prison with five months suspended on condition of good behavior. She was also banned from owning any dogs for two years.
She appealed the conviction and has since left the state and is living in South Carolina, where she now faces 44 counts of animal cruelty.
"I don't know why the police and prosecutors and the jury believed her," said Pete Viano, a relative of Bird's, who said that he thinks the charges against him were brought by "an overzealous police department.''
Chris Shipp, a Laconia firefighter who lives in Moultonborough, said that when he heard about the demonstration, he took time off from work to attend.
"Ward Bird is a pillar of the community. The purpose of prison is reform, but there's nothing you can do to make him a better person. He's as good as they come," said Shipp.
John Tolman, who runs a construction company in Moultonborough and says he has known Bird for 20 years, says the sentence is totally unjustified.
"He, like many of us, was under the false impression that he had a right to defend his property from trespassers and that he was within his rights to bear arms to effect their removal. And he assumed that the police and County Attorney's office would actually prosecute the trespasser, not the property owner defending his rights. The idea of him sitting in prison for the next three years is a preventable miscarriage of justice,'' said Tolman.
It's the next town over from me, This woman was looking for land to house animals she was legally barred from owning, she was looking for a particular lot, she stopped and asked directions from a woman who happened to be Bird's daughter who gave her directions and told her not to go beyond a particular spot as everything past there was posted.
The woman drove up about a 1/2 mile of heavily posted driveway.
This guy is getting f*cked by a dem Prosecutor with political ambition.
This is the same Prosecutor who a couple years ago let a guy have probation for pleading guilty to assault and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Tom that has to be alot more to that story...
sounds like the women was a scumb bag.
-
Yes, the woman is trash, but I got Wards story from the daughter and neighbors.
As for the Felon with a gun, Local ne'er do well did time for armed robbery a couple years ago, last spring, him and his ex girlfriend had a fight, she owed him dope money ( Just up the street ) He threatened her with a pistol and whopped her upside the head with it. Couple hours later they pulled him over (In sight of my living room window ) found a pistol under HIS seat, his finger prints, her blood both on it and it matched her description of the weapon he walloped her with.
Prosecutor let him have probation in exchange for a guilty plea .

WTF...
unless the police did something wrong that got something thrown out. there is no reason that should not go to trial. Thats pretty open and shut.
I mean I'm not even a lawyer and I could win that case.
call the vic, haver her tell her story. call the aresting officer, show the gun. call the lab tech, show the blood on the gun. The proscution rests. Might take all of a day.

I know, I wrote letters to the editors of both local papers saying essentialy the same thing and that with incidents like that their calls for "crime control and prevention" were a pathetic joke.
They refused to publish it and have not published any of my letters since ;D

The cops had to have screwed up, nothing else makes sense.
THats the kind of case a DA loves. Its a slam dunk and you can show the public how hard you are on crime. thats a elected offical in the justice departments wet dream.

Unless he and daddy were frat brothers and the girl was "the wrong sort" or something like that. In which case? Its "good ole boys" rules. >:( If you want to be a real prick, AND revel in the irony at the same time Tom? Call your friendly neighborhood G-man. (after making sure the vic will testify). The OPR is scary stuff and they make their bones prosecuting small time local officials so they get to play in the big leagues. Its far more trouble than its worth BUT, if I were an ambitious 30 year old agent? I might swing by Laconia and spend a day or two.
